What makes F100 so special?

Post by elgemcdlf »

Is it just me or is there something to being able to say "I have a F100" instead F150. I have always been a fan of the F100. Our 100 holds a special place in my heart and the 150 is just a truck. Any other thoughts?

I agree, I love being asked what i drive and replying "F100", and it makes people pause like they have to remember what that is. Some don't even know. I love the feeling of driving an "F100". Its classic, especially bumps, and they are just sooo darn good looking.

What's an F100 anyway?!!! I LOVE my F100's...my first vehicle was a '56 F100 that I got in 1987 when I was 15 years old. I drove it all through high school. Guess what? I STILL have it!!! :D It's in my garage now still waiting to be finished. My other F100 is the '69 and I've owned it since December 2007.

So what if she's a little rough around the edges. 8) My '69 isn't perfect either. They don't have to be. I think people dig 'em for the same reasons I do...they're old, classic, stylish, and they still get around!

I searched for months, almost years to find the perfect restoration truck for me. I knew that the 60's / early 70's was the era for me, so I looked at all makes and models of trucks. For some reason, when I saw the late 60's F100 I knew it was for me. I love owning the F100, and most people here in North AL work on Chevrolet's. I do have one or two nice bumpside's somewhat close to me, but I have not been able to see them parked to meet the owners.

I get a lot of comments like "My dad had one just like this!", or "This is like my Grandpa's truck!". You can see in people's faces that they have memories of trucks like these. Even if it's not an old Ford, they like seeing the simplicity of these trucks.

The "F100" moniker has been upstaged since 1975 and discontinued since about 1983. So only true gearheads and Ford truck fans are going to remember the F100 as a regular truck anymore.

I love the look on people's faces(especially at auto parts stores) when I say I have a F-100. Usually a confused, not sure stare is what I get. Only the folks who grew up with them or work on cars & trucks know immediately what I'm talking about.

The only other place I use to hear F-100 is from my Dad, because one of his uncles flew the F-100 fighter jet back in the 50s & 60s.

My F100 has been parked for 6 years. I put another carb on it this week and finally drove it tonight down the street. I'll get tags this week. I think I'll drive it this summer and then tear it apart this winter for a restoration. I was grinning from ear to ear driving that old F 100 tonight. :D

Yep, the F100's are special because they have a history in my family too. My grandpa bought a new tan '76 F100 with the "300 industrial" six-cylinder and 3 on the tree. Then my dad went the next year and bought himself a red '77 F100, straight off the top of the car hauler when it pulled into the dealership! It was also a 300, but was the regular-duty version, and a 3 on the tree. Those trucks are gone, but now my '69 is here, and I don't plan for it to go anywhere! :D

Dad bought my 71 new right here in Huntersville, NC. I remember while I was in grade school I came out and across the street say MY truck with a sell sign on it. I took the sign off and threw it away. Did the same the rest of the week. He finally got the idea it wasn't going to keep a sign on it and quit trying. I found out years later the store owner told my dad I was taking the signs down. lol I thought I was getting away with something. He finally bought a van and gave me the 71 when I was 15. I am now 48.

For me it is different than a regular pickup. This is coming from a person who owns a fleet of pickups. I like the stance on it, great ride, still can carry something not to heavy though. It is my daily driver and will be ome even more unique this summer when we will make it a bifuel where it will run on cng. Cng is $1.50 gge here by me
