I bought yet another old Ford truck

Post by F100builder »

Well, I found another old Ford and brought it home (already had the '56 and '69)...it's a '95 XLT 4WD with the 5.8L (351W) and is real clean considering its age and mileage. It has become my daily driver and it's part of my quest to have NO car payments and reduce my total debt. I had too long until my car would be paid off and we have a baby boy coming in May! :D It gets terrible gas mileage compared to the Mazda 3 it replaced but I only drive it about 10 miles a day; I've put just 2000 miles on it since the first week of November. I joined the vanpool to take me to and from work so I also save about $250/month in gas. Since I bought it, I've replaced the old yellow headlights and amber markers with clears, removed the grandpa mudflaps, tinted the windows, and installed an aluminum grille. I replaced the AM/FM/cass. with a new Sony head unit, the stock speakers with Kenwoods, and added a 1000W amp and two 10" subs. I also have a 4" lift in boxes on my garage floor which will go in when I manage to save enough for 33's. I'm also waiting for a little warmer temperatures to spray or roll in a bedliner.

It hasn't been just fun stuff either...I fixed the rear main seal that was spotting up my driveway and serviced the E4OD while it was out for the RMS replacement! In addition, I replaced the engine's oil pan gasket, the E4OD's front pump seal, and the transfer case's output seal. What a job THAT all was! :hd: Not ONE DROP NOW!!! :D The picture below shows the oil slick that is now gone...

That is one beautiful white XLT, one of my favorite models of F150's. What kind of gas mileage do you get in it? Love the old '69 as well, you have any other pictures of it on the forum anywhere? If not I'd love to see more of both your old trucks.

Your 95 looks a whole lot like my daily driver, a 96 F-150 Eddie Bauer SWB 4x2. I too had to recently replace my rear main seal and have my E40D serviced too. Over the past few years I've changed the original radio/cassette out to a sony cd/radio, replaced my stock speakers with kendwoods, put a Cobra CB where the ash tray was, rebuilt the whole front end + brakes, and many mechanical repairs & tuneups on my 5.0 V8. These early-mid 90s Fords are the last of the real trucks Ford made(in my opinion). Everything else made since then has had progressively more metric parts, computers, more wiring, more plastic, and less simple parts.

Thanks! It's one of my favorite generations too. I think I get about 15-16 mpg which seems to be about normal for the year, motor, and mileage...I could probably do some tweaking and throw a few parts at it to get as much as 17-19 but like I said, I only put about 10 miles, if that, per day so I'm not hurting too bad. You can take a look at the full build thread on my '69 here... http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 22&t=65241

Also, in my sig, I have a link to my cardomain sites although I haven't updated them for quite some time.

Good to read you again Max! You're correct. 1996 is not old...but 1995 is!!! Thank you! I'm excited for the little one to get here! :D

I think that's why I like this gen. too...I can still work on it! My wheel bearings and brakes are next on the list. I'm trying to freshen up all of the important pieces and systems first and make sure it's sound. I was originally looking for a regular cab shorty 4x2, like my other two trucks, because I just like the sportiness of shortbox 2WD's and I wanted the same configuration representing the 3 different generations. Plus, I wanted yet another hot rod truck!!! I had visions of a Lightning clone (no decals though) but with even more umph. BUT, I came across this truck and it was very clean and the price was right so...it's in my driveway now.

Oops, I meant that 1995 isn't old either. :D As far as I'm concerned, a truck isn't old unless it's older than me (and so far, I have only owned "old" trucks).
