Post by johnkuhn »

my motor has been overheating and I have replaced the thermostat but had no success, then my brother told me that i would probally have to replace the waterpump, in the process of doing that, is there any modifications that i can do to improve this problem.

With the water pump and thermostat housing removed, snake a hose into the openings at the front of the engine and blast away with water until clear.
Also remove both hoses to the heater-core on the passenger side firewall, gently flush out until clear. When reassembling, use a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water.
No modifications are needed, other than keeping the cooling system in proper working order.

Your water pump is likely OK I bet.. Most likely your radiator is plugged up. You could
try flushing it all out real well, but there is a good possibility you will need to get
it rodded out or get a new one before it's over with.. Once they get bad, just flushing
alone usually won't get er done.. :(
