My fiancee isn't a gearhead like me. Like many females, she doesn't understand the mechanicals involved in automobiles, she just has the general appreciation for pretty Mustangs and other nice cars. She originally liked my '06 Mustang GT the most when we first started dating. Then, after us taking the bump to a few carshows, cruising it around, and people staring at us and giving thumbs up, she tells me the other day that she likes cruising in the bump more than the Mustang now! To me, that is saying alot when she'd rather cruise in the South Texas heat in a 43-year-old truck with NO a/c and NO stereo, than in the sweet Stang with red leather, tinted windows, cold a/c, and 500 watts of stereo! In two weeks, we're going to take our engagement pictures and she tells me she wants me to have the bump and Mustang clean and ready to participate as props in our engagement pictures! Heh, as sensitive as most women are about anything related to their weddings, I guess it's a good sign when they want to get the toys involved in wedding stuff!

My best advice for you is just to try and get her to appreciate your project for what it is and be sure to point out to her all of its strengths, not just the weaknesses that she sees. Try to let her see what it means to you and maybe it will grow on her too in time. She might not ever understand internal combustion or want to get greasy with you in the driveway, but she might just start nagging you to take her to town in the truck one day!

Just wish my Vicki was still alive. She had her interests and I had mine. We lived by the 50/50 rule, loved and got along great for 36 years. She accepted what I liked as I did her likes.
