I have completed a new motor swap in my 67 f250 from a 390 to 460. In doing so my trans is moved back 5 in., went from athe amx? to a C6. I have made a new shifting linkage but it wont go completely from park to low. I am also having a problem with the shifter not allowing it to start in park, only in drive. My last problem is I have removed several aftermarket devices from truck and now it wont hold a charge. Electrical is not my best suit. Please be patient with me to reply as I work 15 hs a day during the week.
Check the obvious stuff first like the brake lights staying lit or the dome light staying lit. After that, the best trick for narrowing down power drains is to put a test light between the negative battery cable and the negative battery post and see if it lights up. If it lights up, you have a power drain. Best place to start is to unhook the voltage regulator and see if the light goes out. If it does go out, the regulator is bad. If it stays on, there is a drain elsewhere. You can then remove fuses ONE AT A TIME and replace them, checking the test light between each fuse to see if it went out. When it goes out, you found the circuit you need to inspect for shorts, faulty switches, or bad wiring.
