desperate
CATS! one of our neighborhood strays laid babies in my boat. now that she knows I know she's there, she's moved the kittens under the hull into the floor where I can't reach them without ripping up my floor! I've already pretty much dis-assembled the interior! 5 kittens about five weeks old and one hissing very ticked off Mother. My boat smells like urine and it seems I can't do anything about them. Do I let them have the run of it and try to deal with the smell later? everytime I try to snatch them they squirrel off into some hole... or mom tries to eat my ***. I could rap her on the head easy enough, but I don't care to kill her or mother these kittens if she don't come back. I just want her to tote them them off to I don't care. Anyone know of anything to evict cats? The bad part is I go out of town for the rest of the week, I need them gone like now!

Re: desperate
invite Alf over for lunch...........
Probably coax them all into a pet carrier when they are old enough to eat. As for the smell, ill ask a friend, she has tons of cats and knows many secrets to getting kitty smell out of stuff.

Re: desperate
rather than try to deal with the smell later, Id throw a hose in there and deal with the flood later... just me... good chance youd get them out with a little water. then just pull the plug to get the water out....

Re: desperate
Thats a better idea than i had after reading bendernut's post. I was going to say lay a board for the cat to use as a walk board, Then shot the mother with a pellot gun. It wouldn't hurt or kill her (nice sting though) and i bet she would take off running to find a new place to live. She'll come back later for the kittens and you'll have your boat back.70shortwide wrote:rather than try to deal with the smell later, Id throw a hose in there and deal with the flood later... just me... good chance youd get them out with a little water. then just pull the plug to get the water out....

Re: desperate
I wish I had thought of the water. would have worked. I ended up taking one of the boat bumpers and beating the sides of the boat. Basicall herded them from the stern to the bow. Momma cat popped out but I was ready for her, work jacket and welding gloves. pinned her down till she was good and mad then dropped her over the side. My Dog couldn't catch her, but he made her think he could
The little ones I had to prod out from between the hull and the floor with a stick. They now live in a cardboard box on the back porch, curently looking for new homes.
My boat is in poor shape. Just two seasons ago I put new interior in and now it's dis-assembled and soaked in cat urine. I keep that thing covered but the boat cover doesn't fit snug enough right there at the boat ladder. nothing you can do, just can't figure out how they were in there so long (at least 5wks) without my knowing.
Thanks for the replies Gentlemen. anyone want a kitten?

Re: desperate
There just cats, take them to the pound and get rid of them. Or, do it the old school way, requires a burlap sack, rock, and a large body of water...... (I haven't heard of anyone doing it this way lately and I live by a large lake). If you keep them around for awhile, someone in your family will become attached to them and you will have them for twenty years!!!!

Re: desperate
Take them to a wealth neighborhood and let them loose their. That way they will have a better chance of finding a good home. it would work even better if you know there was a lot of kids in that neighborhood. if you take them to the lake or the pound their fate is set.... if that doesnt bother you than thats the easiest routes.

Re: desperate
I don't mind them as pets but I hate feral cats.
I don't know about the stink, especially in a boat. since odors do odd things in boat. Mothballs or an open pail of gasoline? Maybe google?
I was thinking about a boat bumper to get them out or an air hose.

Re: desperate
Go down to a pet store and see what's available to get rid of the smell. The people there can probably help you with that. Or contact a commercial cleaning service and see what they can do for you.

Hose it out then spray it with Fabreze. Stuff has its own perfume-ish stink but it'll get rid of some pretty hard core stink.

Re: desperate
Under the floors is gonna be the hard part. That being said for spring cleaning I always washed out my fiberglass with a cup of tide in a gallon of hot water with the plug in, then scrubbed / flushed it with the garden hose until the bilge was full. Wiped it down and opened the drain to carry the chunkies out of the hull.

Re: desperate
I've been to the pound... once while buying my dog tags a guy came in with probably the largest dog I'd ever seen. Said the folks who he rented from said it was him or the dog. The lady behind the desk assured the guy due to the size of the dog and the fact he was turned in by his owner, they'd put him down right away. Later that eve my wife gets home and before I could spill my story this dog hit's the sliding glass door, stands up on two feet and is looking down on my 5' 6" wife. That's what happens when I go to the pound. I nearly had to sleep in the yard with that monster. Had to take him to work everyday for a solid week until I could find a good home for him. The Kittens won't be sleeping with the fish either.
That being said, The urine smell is in the carpet, I'm just going t have to try all the products till I find one...or a combo that works. With the Tide in the hull, I wonder if hooking on to it and taking a cruise would help "aggitate" the suds. I've been getting a few drip and was wndering about a good way to clean the bilge. Tow it, swish it, drain and rinse!

Re: desperate
Here are two remedies I have known of. ***I do not endorse either***
I have a friend that relocates cats & kittens. He puts them in a crate or trap and then drives way out into the country and lets them go there. Seems to work everytime or at least keep the coyotes fed.
I used to work for an old-timer who had a pretty brutal way of getting rid of unwanted kittens. He would put them on his clay pigeon thrower and launch 'em up in the air. BANG! goes the 12 gauge. No more feral cats for a while.

Re: desperate
You can go to walmart and in the pet department they have several different sprays. They contain some kind of chemical that kills the enzymes in the urine that causes the smell. They work really well. I use them in my kennels. Just look for urine remover.
