Some people just dont understand the passion........

Post by 1969FordMan »

I have a passion for old things. Im only 24, but I adore my old truck and aspite to redore many more before my life is over. I just cant describe the excitement I have when I start planning out work for my 1969 F100. I aspire to own a hi-boy bump or a 4x4 dent, a 48-50 F1, a 60 mustang fastback, and to build my 68 mustang coupe. its a big list im sure will never be filled, but I will work on it. Seems like lately at times I havebeen met with hostility when I bring up my trucks. "WHY DO YOU SCRAP THEM AND GET SOMETHING NEW???" and "THOSE OLD TRUCKS OUGHT TO BE OUTLAWED!!!" and "WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU EVEN WANT THAT????" seems like everyone wants to ride in a new Z71, or King Ranch, or Lone STar edition. Its all about new stuff. People seem so eager to scrap old cars and trucks. Its so sad to me. I ADORE my old F100, and my F150. These old bumps ar so beautiful, and user friendly.

Yeah, it may not get the mileage your truck does, or ride as smooth, but when your truck is in the shop for $2,000 worth of transmission repair, or keeps popping odd check engine codes, my F100 will still be a chugging along. When you cant even find your dipstick, I can rebuild my FE over the weekend. I get so sick of guys that literally cant change their own oil, lecturing me about my "junky old peice of crap"

Just needed to vent, I know the guys here understand the attachement to these trucks and other vintage vehicles. I love them dearly. I plan to drive my 69 F100 daily after I move closer to work and get her restored. I keep my 94 because it was my great grandpas last truck, and he wanted me to have it. Between the two Im set, but I always have room for anoteher bump.

A 67-72 has always been my dream truck. I used to salivate over them at little auto shows I would get to go to as a kid. Something about the vintage body, chrome accents, rumble, just got a hold of my heart! NOTHING can replace the feeling of slamming down the gas and letting an old FE white smoke the tires! I fell in love with my FE after getting my 69. Most people dont get it.

*I do also have a 2012 Ford Focus 2.0/5-speed that gets 36-42 mpg depeding on how I drive, so I save gas, but its just transportation, my heart will forever belong to vintage Fords*
1969 F100. All factory 360, 4-speed, candy apple red one owner. Incredible truck!

Some people tell me i have a money pit but i am like you ,they don't understand.I enjoy working on my money pit. I have 2 other vehicles but the 69 gets all the attention. I've allways wanted to do a automotive project. Myself being 56 years young i decided to get something and completely restore it. I choose the 69 SWB,styleside, f 100,360,3 on tree. I am a fan of any make of auto's but i do like the style of this 69 f100 so this is what i choose for my project. Some of my friends and family see my truck as a piece of s*** but i'm sure they will change their mind when it is completed. I'm sure your family and friends will do the same. (that is only if we get done with these projects)

You sound exactly like me. I'm also in my twenties, have an awesome bumpside and early 90s model F-150. Glad to see there are other young guys who think like me.
I also aspire to eventually own a 48-52 F1, 4x4 bump or dent, and some type of Ford sedan(mustang or galaxie/LTD) one day.

When I see a lot of young guys our age fixated on the "new" trucks. I think "how shallow". How can you appreciate or understand the modern stuff if you've never driven, owned, or worked on the old trucks(aka REAL trucks)? I think the bumpsides are not only bad a** but modest and classic. Some of these new trucks are so dang goofy looking and full of plastic and too many bells & whistles. Drive a new truck if you must or need to, but old trucks will always be respected kinda like a wise, old elder.

You related to me? Maybe a brother I dont know about??? LOL

coworker: "my 08 dodge is a lady getter!!"
Me: "has to be because your face sure isnt"

Honesltly (but it could be just the type of girls I date) the women in my life have liked my trucks. Fluffy (my fiance Jessica) is about to start driving th 04 F150, but she is the type that loves trucks, barefoot country girl from the Louisiana swamp. He only gripe is that its 2wd LOL.

And so far I like the little Focus. It handles my 38 miles one way commute easily and efficiently, its fun to drive, cheap on insurance, and turns a 16.3ET, (the same as a 3.8L 1998 mustang I had) It has room, and looks pretty good.

Here is my collection:

2012 Tuxedo black Focus with Drag DR-33s

My favorite pic of my 69 bump. Now has polished aluminum 15" rims off a 94 F150 (these were off my 94)

This was my 94 in its peak, needs body work now, still running strong:

This is my 68 mustang, its a mess, just a shell, but maybe one day she will be home to another nice FE:

I have never much cared for gunmetal, but on the new Focus it looks pretty dang good. Especially with black rims. Im not much on hatchbacks, though the Focus is one of the best looking ones out there. I like my little sedan, but its so stripped down its almost pitiful. Its the S. doesnt even have cruise control.

LOVE the bump, hope to one day have a 4x4 bump myself.

What you got in the Mopar department? They arent too bad, better than Chevys. My dad has a 2011 HEMI crewcab, he gets 24mpg at 65mph.

I understand the passion for old cars and trucks. To me, the only way to truely appreciate them is to make them your daily drivers. The only problem is gas prices really suck these days. My newest vehicle is a '78 Bronco. I ride my bike around town to save on gas. works for me.

I live 38 miles from my job, i love my bump but there is no way i could afford to drive it. In Jan I will have my house paid off, I am then going to save to buy a house close to work, when my bump is redone i hope to make it my daily driver. Possibly rebuild another with a 302 AOD setup for better fuel efficiency.

oh boy, where do i start? :hmm:

OK, so i am just about 17, and i have two of my own trucks. i don't have a drivers license yet, but i love working on them. i grew up riding around in my dads 56 f100 with the Cleavland, slightly modified to go a little faster, and i have been in love with them ever since. we have a 69 bump explorer that dosent get much attention other than the yearly wax job and tune up, but i still enjoy riding around in it when i get the chance. it has a 429 and automatic, no mileage maker for sure, but still fun. my collection is off to a good start, with a 51/52 f1 in the shop, and my 67 bump out side holding the fenders for the 51. hopefully i will get the 67 going so i can drive it to school next year.

as for dodges, i cant complain. my grandpa has a 01 dodge, 180 thousand miles and still going. no major repairs needed, just some minor things.

oh and i must add that :fr:

thanks

I too am a hotrodder at heart. I've had a thing for North American cars and trucks since I was a kid but never was much interested in the foreign stuff. I love the cars of the late '50's and the '60's. I've always been fond of the full-size cars of that era, the Galaxies, Montereys, Marauders, Impalas, Bonnevilles, Newports, Chrysler 300's, Monacos, etc. Especially the 2 door hardtops/convertibles that were optioned with big blocks, consoles with floorshifts and even 4-speeds. Of course I like the mid-size cars of that era too. But for me it all kinda ends around 1973. The Cuda's and Challengers were gone and the Mustang suffered the ultimate indignity by being turned into a stretched Pinto.
I've had a soft spot for Bumps since I was about ten years old. My neighbor had one and I liked it. I think that was the first time I ever saw anyone hot rod a truck. The Bumpsides became my favorite truck which is why I chose my '69. I do like some other trucks too besides Fords and I like all of the different F-series styles built between 1948-79. After that, for me, the styling leaves a bit to be desired. Still good trucks though. :fr:

I"m not a wise but you will have a hard time finding a "60 mustang fastback". I don't think they made mustangs in 1960.
I like your truck and dedication to these old Fords.
    Good luck .
