Thought I'd share what came into my shop today....

Post by 71fordkid »

So Today I go into work (for those of you who dont know, Im a Diesel Mechanic at a Ford Dealership) and my writer grabs me before i can change into my uniforn. He says "i got something thats right up your alley."
I figure, great, im in for another 6.4L no start or something. but he hands me a repair order, and low and behold, the vehicle is a 1969 Ford motor home.

So then i start asking questions. class A? class C? (class A is the big ones, class B is the ones with the van (usually) front end). i finally get him to tell me its a class c.

So i change, get down to the shop, and someone had already racked it for me. here is what I saw.

No one could figure out why i was so excited to see something like this. its a 350, with factory AC, power brakes, no power steering, 360, C6 2wd. its also a camper special(i believe).

so far, it has a brake pull, the turn signals wont work, and after the people get back from their trip, i'm doing exhaust manifolds/gaskets on it. its great being the only person in the shop who knows these trucks and knows where to get literature for them, and im only 20. The last bump that came in, I got to put a brand new 390 in it.

Nice! Almost looks like an Airstream camper. Don't forget to add new hood hinges to the repair list so you can get your creeper back

Wow, I could never imagine a dealer workin on anything out of warranty. My 6.4L has only gone in for injector recall, and a few little things, but never since I put on the tuner and deleted the DPF.

Very cool, I would love to see a better picture of the front hub caps and just other bits and peices.

You don't see them very often and I've never seen hubcaps on duallies.

That is too cool, I love seeing these old bumps still being used for what they were intended. I've seen pictures of these, but never in person, and to think they brought it to a Ford dealer for work, not many guys could work on one of these today. I had trouble getting the local Ford to work on my 92 before I traded it. Hats off to you at your age that you actually have some knowledge on these old beast.

That thing is awesome! I don't care how dated it may look, it's such a cool rig. Great that you get to work on it.

It has a 350? Isn't that a Chebby engine? Ditto on the hood hinges; if you aren't using the creeper, I could give it a good home ...

Seriously, I wouldn't want to own one, but it is pretty sweet-looking. Glad you're helping to keep it on the road.

Hmmm, just re-read the first post. You're right; it says:

"its a 350, with factory AC, power brakes, no power steering, 360, C6 2wd."

My eyes must have locked on the 350, and I didn't even see the 360! Guess it was late. Or I had too much to drink.

Nah! Couldn't be that. It must have been late :D

Thanks for catching my gaffe! It isn't my first, and it probably won't be my last!
