I didn't make an allowance for the eninge tilting back. The fan is @ 1" closer to the radiator at the bottom than the top so the top fits fine but not the bottom.
I tossed the '71 grill on to check that I'll still be fine if I shift the bottom out.
An here the radiator isn't even in the bottom mounts.
Oh, well, baby steps.

How about an electric fan set up? I REALLY like the setup I put on my F150. Gained over 1 MPG, too! Fabbed a bracket for 2 15" fans and used a Spal controller which uses one for primary and kicks the other on with the A/C or if it reaches 20 degrees over the primary fans temp setting, thus allowing for an independent backup.

All the elctric stuff I sourced was thicker than the room I had... I'll make a decent looking aluminum fan shroud that will have a top and bottom that bolt together. I saw that in a Chevy bread van and it made working on the front of the engine pretty nice.
A sharpie width of clearance... Oh wishes for a 4bt again...
I did have to whack off one of the intercooler pipes so I can remove the radiator. I'll make it bolt on simply enough.
Lower braces fitted in place. I also welded a big washer to the bottom for extra support since the original metal was getting a bit thin...
Finally in place. I have some rust repair on the top drivers side yet.
Inner fender fit is much better now too.

Finally got to spend some more time on the truck. Went and got the longer '94 Dodge upper radiator hose and plumbed it up. I ended up with almost five gallons of water in it, then ran it for about an hour burping it out.
Even made a video of it running.

Later this evening my son and I put the bed back on, by hand. It wasn't too heavy (as the pain pills kick in) and looks much better than covered with weeds.
Now I just need to make a punch list and get this thing done.

Slowly for sure.
I mocked the lower valance up this afternoon and I think I'm going to get another one at Carlisle in a couple weeks.
I'm pretty happy with the truck so far. The fan pulls a lot of air through the intercooler. You can really feel the suction on the grill side and after letting it run for almost an hour yesterday the cool side water never rose much above the air temps. Dustin said these engines managed their heat well and I believe it.
The engine seems to have a lot of torque as well, the whole truck rotates a couple degrees when I put it in gear and it moves without fueling it. It's also pretty quiet in the cab but seems really loud outside with the hood open.
I think my next step will be getting the wiring sorted out along with some gauges, then the plumbing and finally the door rebuilds.

Today I fired up the mill and make the flanges for the intercooler tube, welded it all together and painted it flat black.
I also ordered a bunch of stuff from Dennis Carpenter, door handles and hood emblems, door seals and some other odds and ends. I also bought a Glowshift combo pyro / boost / trans temp gauge today. Yesterday ordered a bunch of hardware to finish mounting the beltline molding and fender hardware.
I still need to sit down and figure out the exhaust system and order those bits.
Seven on starts tomorrow night, then four months of days.

Looking good! I'm getting excited just seeing her come together. It will be nice to see you finish this project and have a nice custom bump on the road. I've been watching since it was just a regular truck getting an International diesel install, then a 4x4 chassis, then parked, then Lou shows and two trucks become one, with a different diesel! Quite the transformation....

I've been working another seven on and was given Memorial Day's night off so I could spend it with my family (who are sleeping soundly)... Decided to spend it in the garage making cool stuff.
I like my pyro gauge but being flat black it didn't match the style of the late 60's so I decided to make a gauge pod for it and a shiny bezel. The body of the pod I turned on the lathe, the end cap I hammered, then welded on and used my flap wheel on the lathe to smooth it out. The bezel is aluminum, polished naturally. The bezel is a press fit, I slid it on hot and not it won't come back off
In the back ground is the pod Glowshift included with the guage.
I need to decide where it's going to end up. I want to put it on the 'A' pillar since I plan on eventually having AC in this thing using the underdash unit I have form the '68 I parted out. I had also considered getting the volts / water temp / oil pressure guges and making a custom pod that goes over the dash pad.
Finally I made an aluminum template and cut out some new inner fender to cab seals out of recycled rubber. If there is a market I can make these for others

Ok, I have a template for the T gasket that covers the hood hinge from underneigth too. You'll have to reuse or find some push clips, the holes are 1/4" in the body and fenders.
I'll have to figure out how much shipping will be on them and price accordingly.

No huge accomplishments today but I'm chipping away at things. One of my pet peeves was the lightning bolt rubber floor mat wasn't fitting very well over the carpet. The mat came from an automatic truck with the low hump and I still had the high hump setup installed. So, out with the mat and carpet, left them set in the sun while I took the high hump off and made a peice of 14ga sheetmetal into a low hump. Back in with the carpet and finally the mat tucked up under the cowl cover nicely.
I also dug my free black seat out of the basement to replace the green one from the '70. This seat came out of a '69 ex-U-haul dually box truck and had a heavy naugahyde cover over this comfortweave mesh material. The naugahyde was trashed and the truck had a shattered windshield for years but the undercover only suffered some glass pokes in the center section.
Finally the '70 seat that I should find a new home for. It's sad because it still smells like new when the sun hits it in the truck.
Otherwise I spent a lot of today chasing missing parts and finding vanished or forgotten parts. I've also started sorting out the underdash electrical again. I'm still not sure if I'm going to leave the starter solenoid on the passenger side since the alternator is there and just run a big jumper over the radiator support or run the big alternator wire over to the battery. PITA at any rate.
