What a cruiser!
Thanks for posting, it reminded me of one I keep seeing listed on Craigslist. I posted a link in the classifieds, it's also a '69.

Maybe a good time to swap on some new hood hinge springs too, so you get your creep crawler back

The more I look at it the more I love it. If one of those was for sale by me I would buy it in a snap. Probably would have to live in when my wife throws me out of the house when I would pull up with it.

I thought since there was a post on the go already for campers , I'd add a few pics of one for sale in our area. This is a rare bird for sure , room for Ma and Pa and all the 6 young- uns for sure. Looks like he has a set of aluminum rims on it too. Asking $1900 Canadian, I think that's a good deal.

Wow, that thing almost needs it's own ZIP code. I can just imaging getting around a gas pump, much less a 'modern' parking lot.

Thanks for the pics.

Whateverman, it's on Used Victoria, if you haven't seen this used ad site before then you're gonna love it. Way better here in Victoria than CL or kijiji, for some reason everyone here uses it, it's a great site for us here in Victoria. I pulled the ad up last night so I'm sure it's still there.The ad has more pics of it too , I like it a lot myself but just wouldn't know where to park it. For that price(I'm sure he'd take less) , you really can't go that wrong, it looks pretty much rust free too.

Most of your contemporaries can't do a darned thing without plugging in an OBDII reader first. Props to you for being knowledgable and part of the new, young generation of Bumpside fans. I'm 28, and almost none of my friends know what points are or have ever set dwell- except for my buddy who had a '72 highboy in high school!

I just got a 1968 Camper special..
can you tell me what these were specified for? Campers only?
Mine has a 4sp manual trans with a '390... but no shell of camper, just a big ol 8ft bed!
sounds like you know what's up with these...
I am getting like 7mpg too, (just got it) what can I do to improve this??
(I know she likes to party with the fuel,,, just looking for suggestions)
oh yeah,, do they call all old ford trucks "bumps" or what?

thanks man!

Max;

There are alot of those people out there. hell, i went through a 2 year Ford tech school and was baffled at how many people had just decided "i wanna be a mechanic" and enrolled. hell, 3 or 4 had never even changed oil before. needless to say i found friends with a fellow diesel nut, a couple of 4x4 guys, and some farm kids.
that being said, i just bought myself one of Ford's obdII scan tools, and with the newer engines, they make it very hard to pinpoint what is going on inside. Ever worked on a 6.0or 6.4? hell or even had the hood up on one? those are bread and butter for me, but there can be alot different causes for one symptom. its definately not like working on your bump in your back yard. Ford cant make it like that, we could make too much money if it were.

D.lee;

well its said you can throw $500 or $5000 at a FE and not change a damn thing about milage, its one of those engines that just gets what milage it gets. that being said, you can take some things into consideration like (and heres where the mechanic in me comes out) 1] are your tires aired up properly? 2]how long ago was the vehicle tuned? 3] do you change you oil every 3k or 3 months? 4] how is your rear end fluid? 5] how are your wheel bearings? basically its all aerodynamics and friction. you cant do much for aero, but the more friction you have in your engine, rear end, wheel bearings and rolling resistance from under inflated or oversized tires, the worse your mileage is going to be.

also, how do you use your truck? does it see alot of highway driving? you probably have somehting like 4.10's in your rear end, and with a 1-1 final drive ratio in your trans, your engines spining pretty fast at freeway speeds. i realize that this if a very in depth thing to change (especially with a D60 and not a 9'') but it also plays into things.

the term "Bump" refers to the body line on the side of the truck. it "bumps" out for the 67-72 models, and "dents" in for the 73-79 models.

not really sure what the diferances were for the camper specials, but i know they were put out primarily for those who used campers. if memory serves, they had higher rated rear leafs, were rated to carry more, and had more accessories in the cab.

and now that im probably going to crash the server with the book i wrote, i hope it helps you a little.
