Wonder what it would take to pu t a 350 in a bump. Just curious, I know all the hard core guys are going to crusify me but has anybody done this. Used to have a friend that had one in a 60's F100.
About 15yrs ago friend of mine shoved a 2bbl 350 (or so he claimed- it looked alot like an ancient 283 to me ) and th350 into his 68 f350 farm truck(which he then called his "f350 chevy" and thought it was funnier than it looked),flat out nastiest looking swap ive ever seen, and i've seen and been involved in more than my share of them .
It ran ok,but he did a real hack job building frame stands for the engine mounts , the distributor was ridiculously hard to get at and the engine sat way too high, however:
The center dump "ramshorn' exhaust manifolds along with the extra clearance due to the mickey mouse engine mounts made it really easy to fab up a real simple dual exhaust
he ended up using "universal" flexible rad hoses - i believe that he used the stock rad
since the f350 was originally a 4spd he ran a crappy old B&M prostick shifter screwed to an old plywood box that was bolted to the floor in front of the seat
The truck had manual drums and armstrong steering so he didn't have to fool around too much with anything else other than getting his driveshaft shortened abit and doing some alternator wiring
sadly this marvel of automotive engineering is longer with us .
about 8yrs ago when the rusty old cabmounts finally collapsed, the cab ended up beating the chev's distributor into submission, and off she went to the crushpile....
- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...
