Its been a while...

Post by 71fordkid »

well due to school and work, i havent been on here or working on the bump for a while. now, with school done and the girlfriend working evenings, it time to burn some metal. :hd:

i dont remember where i was with the last update and i cant find it, and i also never started a build thread for this truck, so ill start from the beginning of the madness.

here is is when i got it.
Image

this is what i traded straight across for it (kinda stupid move... oh well). it was a 1987 Toyota Supra, I-6 3.0L non turbo 5 speed, RWD. good running car, fun, comfortable, but i wanted a truck again. this was the 2nd stepside I had ever seen in person, so i had to have it, just cause of the "rare" factor.
Image

cut two coils out of the front, axle flip in the rear (not notched), and a full spool (yes on the street as a daily driver). this picture is with my new daily, after i found large chunks of bearing material in the oil filter.

theres a large gap between there and when i pulled the motor, trans, front clip, and cut out the old front suspension. i know i took pictures, but i cant find any of them. anyways, i borrowed the plasma cutter from work and cut all the old front suspension components off the frame. then i had some stress cracks to weld, and then i started with this:

got it set in, then measured and drilled holes.

Here we are today, from day 1 its been almost a year my trucks been apart. it will be 1 year in august. tipped the cab back on the frame to fix a cab mount and some rust in the floor, and get better access to the control arm brackets i had to fab.

heres the control arm brackets from start to finish.

Im hoping that these next pictures, while showing just how burnt my neck is, will allow more people to see that this swap CAN be done in the back yard.

This is my workshop:

And just where am I getting the steel for the plate and brackets i have to make? well i wouldnt dream of putting non-bump parts on a bump! this bed is also where Im most likely going to get the steel floor to put in the stepside bed.

I also have some goodies to put on, like a set of cherry '67 F-100 hood badges, '67 rear view mirror and sun visors. and some other stuff. still looking for a horn ring for the 68-69 steering wheel in a junk yard, and not having any luck.

Just thought I'd update you guys on where I am with my truck, and let ya'll know i'm still playin with trucks.

Good to hear from you. Another one that slipped through the cracks of time.

Want me to put this thread in the projects sub-forum in a couple days?

Sure, i figured it would end up there. just wanted to let more people see it cause theres not a whole lot of traffic in the project updates. you can go ahead and move it if need be.
