Body swap
Hi, I am new to the site. I have a question I hope you can help me with. My first vehicle was a 70 bumpside F100 and I loved it, restored it with my dad, and really enjoyed it. It's been long gone, and I recently aquired my grandfathers 91 F150 that has been stored inside since new with only 20k original miles on it. I am wanting to turn it into a shop truck and make it look more vintage. I came up with the idea of swapping bodies. This way I could still honor my grandfather with the DNA being his truck and the body I preffer. Has anyone ever done this? Is it even possible? I've tried to find measurements online to see if everything will match up with no luck. I realize it will be a big project, but think it will be pretty unique when done. I have found a non running 72 a few hours away with all the factory options that has just been sitting in a storage unit for 20 years, so the body and interior are perfect for me, may even be able to get the motor running and make a little money in the process. Anyway, your advice an knowledge would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Re: Body swap
Welcome to the site! Not sure who might have tried a swap onto a 91 but heres a project post onto a 2000 chassis. Probably not hugely different that it cant be done

Re: Body swap
I did it with a 95 F150, Should be the same. I can't think of his name but another guy did it to a bronco. P.M. me if you have any questions.

It was our member Spectre out in Cali. We haven't heard from him in awhile, (typical of most guys here when they start re-wiring the whole truck).70 ranger on Sat Jul 14, 2012 1:37 pm

Re: Body swap
Hi guys, thanks for the input so far. I actually pulled the trigger on a 72 long bed, drove 4 hours away to pick it up. Saw the build on the 72 on a 2002, very interesting, doesn't look like he's finished yet though. Pretty extensive. This is going to be a "shop truck" for my side business of building and flipping rods and bikes, so I'm not wanting it to be a trailer queen, yet it will be my daily driver and I want the conveniences of A/C, and stereo, and also want it to have some attitude with suspension, level stance, and slightly hopped up motor. Like I said I have a 91 5.0 with 20k original miles on it. After looking at that build thread, I'm wondering what would be easier, the body swap, or just taking the motor and trans out of the 91. My gears are really turning though after watching the last episode of Fast N Loud on Discovery where they built a bumpside with a 4.6 late model motor, newer rear end with disc brakes, and different front end. The truck was bad ass when they finished and it brought 50K at auction. I also have reservations about the bed on the one I got. I thought I really wanted to stick with a long bed, but love the look of the short bed and would like to keep my dual tank option on my 91, but if I chop the rear of the frame I'll have to relocate the one tank. So that also has me rethinking the one I just got in favor of looking for another one with a short box. Anyway, just some thoughts, looking to bounce my ideas off of you guys.
