Looking at newer v10 haulers have ???ss

I'm not doubting the V10 performance, but there's a huge difference that stating the tq/hp numbers doesn't show- Where the torque is in the powerband.

That is true, But the V10 pulls pretty well down at 1500 RPM. At 4000 it really pulls. You just have to get used to letting it go that fast. I wish mine was a manual trans. I think it would give even better performance if I could shift it and it had a couple more gears.

The later 7.3's were either 250/275hp and 500/525tq. Don't discount a couple hundred bucks for a tuner to get another 40-60hp and a pile more torque. Mine's got a basic 40hp econo tune and pulls really well and gets good milage, and like I mentioned before it has 299k on the odometer.

I think the real question comes down to if you want a diesel truck or a gas truck. Logically, you can drive a v10 for a REALLY long time a 3-4k miles a year before you make up the difference in cost and it'll probably pull just fine. My old truck was an F-250 with a 5.4 and the ZF-5 manual. It pulled an enclosed car trailer down the interstate and didn't like going uphill, but it still did it.

There is no doubt that the diesel is better at 1500-2500rpm.

I am finding some nice looking crew cab powerstrokes in this price range but with 175000-250000 miles on them. Even if took care of there is to many possibilities of stuff that will need to be redone. I really like the top truck being the crew cab as with kids and traveling I think it would be more comfortable.

Both of those are a lot of truck for the money for sure. How much more would you have to pay for a similar year, condition, AND mileage PSD?

Sit in the back of the 99-04 extended cab trucks. They're not cramped, but I think the crew cab is a much better deal. My last two Super Duties were extended cabs, and I held out for a crew cab this time.

The 3/4 and 1 ton gas trucks seem to loose their new care value faster and deeper than any other truck I can think of. With that said it looks like there can be great deals to be had for someone that does not need or want a diesel. I love my new 6.7 PSD but if I did not tow 15k I would not have it.

I did the math the other day. Averaged 10.5 MPG on the trip with the boat trailer. 95% highway miles at about 63 mph. I was able to maintain that speed on any incline up the NYS thruway into the Adirondack Mountains and always at the speed limit on local roads.

I just bought a 06 f250 v10 supercab 4x4 and love it so far. It has a afe CAI and Gibson exhaust. I used the super chips cortex tuner off my 05 and it really woke it up!

I find that my Supercab is great fr inside storage or the dog, but pretty much a torture chamber for full-grown humans for more than a few minutes, and that the littke dors are a real PIA sometimes. I will be looking for a crew next time.

I bought a V10 excursion in 2002 (2001 model with 20,000 miles on it) - I have always pulled an 8500 lb camper with it - about 5000 miles/year. It has just turned 240,000 miles - uses a bit of oil now - but has never missed a beat.
