Welcome to the rust belt :(

Welding a nut on MAY help, but I think you are going to need more heat than that to break it loose. That knuckle is a big heat sink and doesn't heat up fast.

one nice thing though.... you can drill all the way thru it and not worry about what is behind it.

:2cents:

good luck!

I've bought things like that from the east coast too. You never think about it living out here. Drilling looks like the best way to me too.

I've hit it hard to deform the plate on the side (no movement)...hope its just at the top of the bolt fused...so just get that cap off and get some liquid wrench in over night and see first. Thought I wasnt going to get the tie rod off also, with my puller actually groved the area so have to file that (got it off though)

Some Muriatic acid will eat thru the rust fairly quickly....

Take the top plate/bushing/kingpin off, then use a drift from the top down to hammer the kingpin out of the bearing....

got it punched out finally
bought the 7/8 impact (I have a torque wrench that willl do the job :D ) for the king pin but wont budge lifts axle would need to move it somewhere to support it. But read about a good idea and will make a tab like it and weld on mine and hammer it and see what happens ...

I bought a piece of 7/8 hex tool stock and a breaker bar with a 4' cheater... and a torch.

it worked.

As for welding on the KP... if the welds don't hold then you are back to drilling as you will weaken the socket hole.. I would weld as a last resort.

A standard 7/8 allen wrench hit with a sledge will break anything loose. You can put an 8' bar on that kingpin and hang a 300 pound guy on it and the sledge and $8 allen wrench will still do a better job. I've pulled dozens of those things out. It's the only reason I have a 7/8 allen wrench and it's a chinese POS I bought from Ace Hardware on a Sunday. It's had the piss knocked out of it, it still looks like the day I got it and it was like $8.

finally got both king pins out... ended up cutting the slit at the bottom with the die grinder and put 1/2" impact one came right out. Well the other one did the slit beat on it with allen wrench and all that and started cracking all over so did the final weld piece and came right out. The piece of metal might look familiar I think it is the old 68 transfer case mount piece with the two holes fits right on the king pin  Now the bearing race wont budge :x
