Been a member for a month or so and finally get to ask my first question....woohoo!
Bought my friends '72 Ranger F100 awhile back and started doing some repairs and while looking the pickup over noticed the stickers on the inside door/cab pillar. Got my glasses on to read what they said and now I'm scratching my head trying to understand them. The VIN number indicates that the engine was a 360 but the silver plate sticker on the pillar says engine size 390. Am I correct? Maybe I'm answering my own question but, do you think the engine has been replaced? Is there any way for me to hunt down the history of my truck? Thanks guys for your time.

Re: Scratching my head
Oddball bureau of auto repair sticker looks like it may be an old govt. decal for emissions (EVP, EGR, PCV) Where is the truck from?
The only true way to know what you have now is the pencil trick to verify the stroke.

Re: Scratching my head
I live in South Dakota as does my friend that I bought the pickup from. He bought it around 2007 from a guy in North Dakota who told my friend that he purchased it from a guy here in South Dakota. That is what I know. Sure would be nice to find out more. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Scratching my head
I figure his VIN says 360 and the non OEM sticker says 390 so I assume at some time the truck had a 390 installed in it and it had to have the sticker for some Govt. function. Still gonna have to verify the stroke to know.

The vin plate is on the door but after wire brushing and cleaning off the frame rail I see no numbers. Will have a look under the seat tomorrow for the numbers there.
