Peer Pressure!

Post by 1972hiboy »

My buddys father is trying to convince to buy his good friends 72 f250 4x4. Hes had the truck for a long time and just recently picked up a newer truck to enjoy his retirement with. I guess his friend is over the old truck and just wanted it gone.Oh it runs and drives and has paint not a basket case. Apparently hes so over it he thinking about selling it back to California as a gross polluting vehicle for 1,500 bucks. News throught the grapevine is hed sell the truck to me for the same price of 1,500. I really dont want to see a completely decent sport custom 4x4 go to the crusher with all of its part on it. but dear god I have so many as it is. I may just pick it up to save it and stick it in one of our empty rental garages until I decied what to do with it. I feel like a orphanage........

Pick it up and sell it on this site, sell it on Craigslist, or part it out. If you part it out at least the parts go to save another vehicle. I have even thought of loading a truck and a trailer with rust free California parts and driving it east to sell everything. Then I would fly back to California leaving the truck with a new owner in the rust belt. Just a thought.

ok so i went and looked at it today after my three hour "visit" to the local dept of motor vehicles. I had only seen the truck once a couple years ago and honestly didnt take a good look at it. Once i inspected it closer it did have some serius rust issues. Over all the truck was'nt beat up it was just worn out. I dont think the body is salvagable. He had swapped back on the orig split rims with 9.00x16s that were pretty bare as well. Did have dealer a/c and saddle tanks. pretty tired 360. I didnt even think about taking pics. I can go back over and get some. I started out on a test drive and made it to the first block and turned it around, yea it was that scary. Honestly I think his buddy talked the truck up a bit but realistically its a parts truck, and there are some good parts there but alot of work and money would be needed to make it daily driver. Maybe im spoiled but my highboy drives ten times better down the road than his and I thought mine still had a couple quirks. So I think if i can get the truck for 5-800 bucks id go for it just to give some extended life to other trucks with a better chance of survival but as far as a potential driver it would have to be somebody looking to do a full resto with a new body. He lives two blocks away from the coast so this truck is doing what the trucks in the salted states did years ago. But I had a good time looking at it and taking it for a ride and a nice chat super cool guy. I kinda laid out the obvious to him and gave him my personal opinion about better to let somebody have it to save the parts vs the crusher, he said hed be in touch because he knows I like these trucks and knows I would put the parts to good use and he did say he would rather have somebody do something with the stuff vs get destroyed but like any normal person I think he is gunna try CL first to see if he can find a um pardon the language "dumb" kid to try and but it for real money first. understandable but I honestly dont see it. I mean maybe you never know but its even hard for a kid to not see the holes everywhere and the old bondo popping up under the paint.
