I bought a 67 F100 stepside today newbie

Post by Brian339 »

Hi fellas,
I have owned many sports cars over the years but this is my first classic truck. I am completely in excited and I cannot wait to dig in. Its a Cali truck with no body issues. Has a straight 6 that runs ok. I dont know where to start.
This is where I can use some experienced help. Please offer up some advice.
I am going to keep my upgrades to a maximum of $5000.00
Paint is ok so I am not going to deal with that at this time. Everything else is open for discussion.

Advice? My best advice is to get it on the road and drive it for a couple weeks making a list of what you like and don't like about the truck, then start looking at upgrades and fixes on this site.

These trucks are dead nuts simple to work on, are pretty forgiving of farmer fixes, and have a decent aftermarket / spare parts following. The chassis was used through '79 so any upgrade (power steering and disc brakes) is a simple bolt in proposition.

BTW, welcome to the site.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the purchase of the truck.

What is your objective with the truck? --engine, transmission, etc. Are you wanting to keep it stock or go in some other direction with it?

This was my introduction on this forum, my truck, and my plans for it:

My head is spinning with ideas. The body is mint and the paint is ok. Nothing to do there at this time. Front and rear bumpers will come right off and be redone. The grill will be redone. The interior is ratty so that will be done. I suspect the 6 cylinder will need to go but I need to learn about what will pair up with the 3 speed because I dont want to do the whole drive train. I like disc brakes so those will be done. I plan on doing a new suspension as well. Any help and insight is welcome.
