Magnetic vinyl cowl vent cover

Post by hazelnut »

Im looking for a magnetic cover for my vent to keep out leaves, pine needles and those little spinner things that fall out of populor trees. I know i could buy a truck cover but who wants to put one of them on and off all the time. Magnetic cover would be perfect to keep most of the trash out of the cowl, along with most of the rain water.

Ive looked around on the net and havent seen any made for our trucks and thought it might be other people out there looking for one to. Is there anyone on site that would be able to make them and sell some to us if thier was enuff people that wanted to buy. I think its a good idea and hopefully enuff people would want to buy one if someone would make them. Would help keep cold air from coming through the vents to in the winter to.

You might try a sign or printing company, they sell the magnetic vinyl sheet. Comes in different colors, easy to cut.

That's a pretty cool idea $25 or so...

We use them at work to cover pinch points on the conveyors and they wear well. I guess the only real trick would be matching an interior vinyl paint to your exterior color.

You're trying to reinvent a wheel that's already been finely balanced!
There's a vendor here that sells it, (if you look hard enough you'll find them).
I made mine with an old magnetic sign I found at a car wash, (where they're always blown off) and rattle can matched it with tan rustoleum. Cost...about $.50 worth of spray paint:

And oh...it took three separate pieces to make mine work right. You also want to pull it off ever month and clean under it and reposition it as to not damage / mark / scratch the paint on your truck.

I made mine with some magnetic sheets I bought at Hobby Lobby. It is 3 pieces glued together, one for each side, and one in the middle to cover the seam of the other two pieces. It holds well, but is easily removed when needed.
