Did I see your bump yesterday?

Post by Kurt Combs »

Living in a rural part of California I see bumps on a daily basis, most of which are being used for work related functions. I don't believe there are any that are restored or seriously fixed up. Yesterday was an exception, but I had to leave the county to experience the change.

Yesterday I drove down to Sonoma County to buy some new tires at Costco, it is about a 100 mile trip on a nice fall day so it was a nice drive. About half way there, just north of Cloverdale, I spotted a red bump step side in the slow lane. I overtook him pretty fast as I was cruising at 70 mph and he was doing around 55. I slowed down as I pulled up a long side of him and checked out his ride, a very nice vehicle that looked to be in great restored condition. Gave him a thumbs up out the back sliding window as I accelerated back up to my cruising speed. I hoped he would stop in Cloverdale where I make my "pit-stop" on the way to Rohnert Park, but I didn't see him again. I went on my way to Costco and dropped just short of a grand on new tires and then went to my mom's house a little further south. She needed a new television, so after discussing the purchase with her I headed for the big city of Santa Rosa and yet another Costco. There in their parking lot was a black 1972 short bed step side looking really cool. It was lowered, custom rims and upholstery, very nice truck. I parked near him hoping to chat when he came back to his truck, but he was gone when I returned with a television for mom. Went back to mom's and installed the television and explained the remote to her (she is 93 years old so she doesn't like change). Then my wife and I started back home in my bump for the 100 miles cruise, uneventful and after dark so we didn't see anymore bumps.

After my experience yesterday, I guess I just need to get out of Lake County more often to see more nice bumps, but with gas at over $4.60 a gallon I doubt that I will be taking many long trips.

And of course my real question is; did I see your bump yesterday?

We just had a huge jump in the price, broken refineries and California uses a special blend that helps keep the air cleaner, so we can't import from other states. The price will go down in a month or two, but all trucks will drop in value for awhile and econo-boxes will shoot up in price. I hate shocks to the economy, gradual we can deal with, but this type of spike really messes with low income folks.
