72 F250 360 4x4?

Post by ThinLizzy13 »

So I found what I think is a decent deal on a F250. Its standard with 4x4 and has a 360. I have a '65 f100 with a 352 v8. I was just wondering if I could get some feedback on the performance of the 360? I dont really know much about it. And also how does it compare to a 352? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Well from what I have heard/experienced is that the 360 is one of the stronger (durability-wise) of the FE motors. I have one in my F250 2WD. I think the are good motors, but generally get worse gas mpg than the 390.

Ive driven 352's 360's and 390's. in stock form its very hard to tell them apart from just driving. In alot of instances I found the 360 to be quite a bit peppier than the 390 but the 390 did make a little more torque. I would not hesitate to buy a decent 4x4 just becasue it had a 360 and not a 390. They run just fine and some folks prefer a 360 to a 390.

I had a 100% original 30XXX mile 72 F250 with a 360/C6 that tree fell on in the 70's. It had some balls for a completely stock 360.

There really isn't much difference driving a 360 or a 390. Of the very stock examples of both I've owned and driven I think they all did about the same.

I found a pair of pastel blue '69's the other day in an abondoned yard. I found the land owner and she said they are both for sale. They are both F100's, one is a 4X4 and the other is a standard pickup that still runs. I will go look at them then make an offer. I think I could clone the 4X4 to a Mercury but they both look real straight so I will keep you all informed about this. They are both Custom Cabs and not Ranger's.

I have a 360 in my '72 F-100. Great engine! Everyone that has commented on it at shows, etc always had good things to say about them. Most of the time folks say it's one of the best big engines Ford put in trucks. I can't tell much difference between it and the 390. A good 360, when tuned right will get pretty good gas mileage(especially if you're running non-ethanol gasoline).

Well I think im sold on it, it sounds pretty good to me! Now when you say pretty "good" gas mileage when tuned right, are we talkin like 14 or 15 mpg? I dont really care that much, just curious. My 352 on a shortbed gets about 13, but i'd still drive it all day long

In my opinion the best two years for the 360 was '68 and '69. Seems like after that, they were gas hogs, lacked power and went through valve guides like crazy. Anyway that was our experience here. They were just too expensive to run so we made the move to GM. I still restore the Ford's and our local machine shop is very good about installing good parts in the re-builds. The engines don't know what year it is and they still hold that beautiful torque from bottom to top end.
