Engine Cleaning Dilemma

Got all the oil leaks stopped on the flareside. Valve cover, side covers & oil pan. Now it would be nice to high pressure clean the engine. I would like to see that pretty Ford blue again. Not in the yard the wife says,no oil or grease allowed in the yard. No problem, I'll take it down to the local wash your own car wash. Not possible. The county ordinance says no grease down the drains. Somehow, somewhere I am determined to clean this engine. Have A Great Ford day!

Props on your service to the country, youve got my respect, and dont worry about the doctor's ruminations.

Clean your engine by hand, its not that big, and its only grease. Lay down some disposable tarps and get under it and start scraping. Finish with some solvent - you'll want to have alot of rags. Its good therapy. It may take a couple days. Peace

The wash your own car wash should have a system in place to filter out the drain water. If they don't, they themselves are not in compliance with the "no grease down the drains" law, because you're going to be washing away oil and dirt with a car wash anyways. I used to paint when I was stationed down in Beaufort. The paint bays would drain out to a holding tank where the water would evaporate and any oil or other chemicals would collect.

dont most car washes have a engine cleaner setting on them anyways? I agree with mrollings they have to have some way of stopping oil from getting in the sewer. if not ask them how you can wash anything in there.
