Is It Sacrilege To Use Non-Ford Parts On Your Ford Truck ?

Post by 68 Ford Stepside »

Every since I started driving the old flareside, I didn't like the weak measly sound of the horns. I like horns that will wake someone up when I blow them. Went down to the scrap yard last week & bought a set off of a 1988 Cadillac. If someone is in front of me at a stoplight texting & doesn't move when the light turns green, I promise these Cadillac horns will get their attention. Only downside is when I raise the hood & see Delco-Remy on my horns. Makes me feel sort of guilty. Have A Great Ford Day!

The last trip to the junkyard I grabbed the lo & hi horns off of a 1958 Pontiac Catalina. :D They looked heavy duty and loud. I'm hoping for a nice loud solid sound. My wiring is a mess so I havent tested them yet. Can I just bench test them with jumper cables and a battery? I tried hooking my battery charger to them and they wouldn't honk. They might be just too old and don't work. who knows. :(

I was gonna say as long as they're not chebbie parts but I guess it's too late for that. But seriously, the only issue I have is when they put a chebbie engine in a Ford truck. That's just WRONG in my book.

I do agree with a chevy in a chevy, ford in a ford ,mopar in a mopar, etc.., but if it comes down to putting a hemi ( 1st gen 2sd gen not the new gens as much))in your ride ,,the hemi wins hands down what ever the ride is

none Ford motors like the Buick Nailhead , Chevy 348,409 W Series motor, 1st gen Hemi ,Olds Rocket motor are all good looking motors to put in a early ford ! I think these are the only Exceptions

Well, my nephew put an air compressor and horns from a Burlington Northern locomotive under the hood. I think those were a General Electric product.

He finds them especially enjoyable when a Prius cuts him off. I would expect that the other drivers sh*t themselves.
too many Fords, no where near 'nuff time.

Ha! Nice. I'm thinking about putting the horn off a cabin cruiser in mine. I've got factory dual horns, haven't had a chance to test them out yet since getting the Ranger, curious how they will sound

I've got stock horns under the hood, plus a 1930s Oooogah horn and a PA horn. All are fun to use on people.

I have a real neat setup a highway patrol trooper friend gave to me a while back, but I'm not sure it's legal to operate for a civilian. It has four or five different siren sounds plus a mike for the PA. Nice controller with a super heavy duty outdoor speaker & wiring harness. Thought about installing it in the truck for some fun, but I'm too old to do any time for anything illegal. Have A Great Ford Day !

You should hear the horns on my sister-in-law's '93 Buick Roadmaster! Sounds like a ship coming into the harbor!
