why is my oil light on? Ford guy in trouble all hands on ';)
Just chenged my oil. Added six quarts and took it for a spin. Oil light came on. Read the dip stick and I didnt get a reading. I added another quart for a total of 7 quarts and its just below the first line. Doesnt make sense. Anyone have some insight.
Engine runs fine. No unusual noises. ???

if there is not any real bad leaks could the truck have the wrong dipstick in it,thats the only thing I can think of

Maybe most of your oil is up in the valve covers or lifter valley. If the drain down holes are stopped up, that's where it would be.

Re: why is my oil light on?
Now my valve train is noisey as hell. I need to mention that I put sea foam in with the last oil change. This was the first oil change I performed since I purchased the truck. I didnt plan on waiting to long to change it again. Maybe 500 miles. I got a feeling somethings plugged up. I took the valve cover off. This is a straight 6 300. I dont see any oil squirting around and again my valve train is LOUD ticking like mad.
What should I do. I havent got even a clue whats up.....

I would say the seafoam broke loose a lot of sludge & now it's plugging up your oil galley feeding your lifters, push rods & rocker arms & lord knows what else. If everything was okay before you changed the oil, that can of seafoam has cost you a lot of work.

I agree and I think your 100 percent correct. What do I do?
Might sound crazy but I was thinking of doubling up on the seafoam to see if will clear it out.
What do you think good idea? Bad idea?

Brian: It could be as simple as dropping the oil pan & cleaning out the oil pump strainer. However nothing ever seems to end up being simple. If the galleys feeding your main & rod bearings stop up you could easily destroy the crankshaft. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you may be looking at a major overhaul. If you have to tear the engine apart to clean it, it wouldn't make sense not to go ahead with a major overhaul. Maybe someone else here has some other ideas if you can find anyone.

Here's some possibilities. Either the oil pump pick-up is clogged, or something got into the oil pump and locked it up. If something locked up the pump then the oil pump driveshaft may be twisted in half.
My first step would be to remove the distributor to check the oil pump driveshaft. Either way the pan will eventually have to come off but at least you'll know what to expect.
I do not recommend using Seafoam.

just a thought.... how about you drain the oil, take out the sending unit from the block, and blow compressed air through the port while turning the crank... i figure the air would open up any passages that might be clogged.... im not the most experienced member here so someone here might give their thoughts on my theory?

While your theory may work, I wouldn't trust it on my engine. Sometimes mixed in with sludge is maybe a small piece of gasket or small piece of old valve seal. If you were to blow these down in the galley feeding one of the crank journals, it won't go past the .003 bearing clearance therefore cutting off oil flow to that journal. That journal would fail quickly.

Brian: Let me ask you a question. My 300 holds five quarts of oil. You put six quarts of oil & a pint of seafoam in your engine & then added another quart. That's seven quarts of oil & a pint of seafoam in a pan designed to hold five quarts. I would assume the counter weights on the crankshaft are slinging that excess oil everywhere it can. Thats enough right there to knock sludge off of the block walls even if you didn't use the seafoam. Think about it. Good fortune to you during this endeavor.
