Junk yard trip

Post by sargentrs »

Went to the local yard today. They had a '68 and a '71 Explorer model there. Pretty much gutted but both had good radio bezels (one had the AM radio in it) and one had complete factory a/c (one crack in the accumulator housing and missing the glove box door) all the way down to the controls! I'll be getting the radio bezels and controls for sure and the automatic brake pedal assembly. Grille on the '68 was nice but pretty rusty. Pass. headlight bucket was dented pretty bad. All trim was trash but the tailgate trim panel on the '71 looked great. I'll be getting the tailgate to carve up and fix mine, brake pedal, radio bezels and heat/ac controls. Still on the fence about the ac 'cause I'm sure I could get it fixed if the evap wasn't functional. Fenders and such were decent on the '71. Anybody need anything I can look for? I'll be going back Wed to get my stuff.

I walked out the back door this morning heading out to get the F600 dash panel. Then i realized it was 44 degrees & a twenty mile per hour wind coming out of the north. I turned right around & went back inside. Dash panel will have to wait. :(

Got a tailgate with a great trim panel, no dings or dents, just needs polish and paint but the bottom half is all rusted out from a '71. I just need the top ridge which is in perfect condition, the rest of my gate is good. Also picked up a radio bezel, automatic brake pedal from the '71 and an all steel/aluminum (no plastic) instrument cluster and bezel from a '68. Total was $150 which was bit rich but $75 of it was the tailgate.
