PayPal

Post by CrypticRacer13 »

Hey all, How trust worthy is PayPal to you guys? I have my truck(not the ford) listed on craigslist an a guy wants to buy it right now. Hes out of town at sea, He wants me to send all kinds of pictures an what not. My only thing is that its a lot of money to be trown out like that for one to not be albe to come look at the truck. Hes going to make all the arangments to pick it up an all that good stuff too so i dont need to worry about any of that. Just dont want to loose my ass with my baby ya know  SO how trust worthy is PayPal really? I of coure wont give any paper work over till the money is in the bank but ya never know noadays

I have been using it for years to buy and sell things online. I also have used it to send money to family in other states. I have never had a problem with using it. Also you are insured up to a certain amount if I am not mistaken, but I have never used it for more than $1000. I know people that's used it for 5-6 thousand but not me I not that trusting in it  Do so searching online and see what you can find out. I just know from my experience. Hope this helps some.

I sold my Q2 canard 3 or 4 years ago and took payment on PayPal.
The buyer was a friend of a friend and didn't mind me charging $500 extra for the hassle or mind waiting till the full amount was swept into my bank account.

Don't know if it's still the same but I had to wait 14 days before I could sweep the money to my bank.

Hopefully there's something useful to ya in that.

I sold a car on craigslist and had someone try this on me except they said after the payment went through they would come and pick it up themselves... I told them to bring cash if they had planned on coming anyways. I never heard anything from them again so it must have been a scam.

Also had a lady ask me to put my info in so she could figure out how much her insurance would be... I told her it doesn't work that way and to shove it.

Yeah, I had a guy call about my '64 fairlane, wanted the address for a shipping company to come pick it up and everything, ready to pay immediately etc. etc. Told him it didn't run and he really should look at the pictures on photobucket, then plan on coming up in person and never head back. The phone number was to some shop in down near New Orleans...

Sounds like a scam. If he cannot pay cash, tell you will sell with a couple weeks wait while the payment clears the bank or credit processing. Paypal is good but if he disputes a credit card payment or the card in fraudulent then you could be in a battle. It does not cost a lot to provide photographs. Ask specifically what views are wanted. I like the cab mounts, radiator support, fenders, drip rail, interior, engine compartment, and tires. The photo's can reside on your computer and you can also used them. Don't let the title or merchandise leave your possession until the payment clears or have green deposited to your favorite financial institution. The couple vehicles I have purchased online (Ebay) were paid with a credit union cashiers check as requested by the seller.

I hate PayPal. I sold a Ham radio amplifier and took PayPal payment for over $700. Packed, shipped and insured the amp. Ups f*ked it up hard and refused to pay out citing "poor packing"

Paypal then ganked me for the money and ups never paid. Paypal is not good for a seller.

PayPal must have had a class action law suit against them at some point. I received a check from some lawyer a couple months ago that was some kind of PayPal settlement. I have no idea what it was all about, but I cashed the check & it didn't bounce.
