Kurt Combs wrote:I just reread your original post and saw that you wanted A/C in your daily driver. Now around here it seldom gets of 105 degrees in the summer, but it is almost always 90+ degrees in the day time. I don't have A/C and I don't mind, but my wife would rather ride in an air conditioned car. So to keep me happy I just open the sliding rear window and the floor vents and the heater with the temperature set to off. If it is really hot out I open the vent windows too, but I don't like the noise. I would say that I am okay with the temperature in the cab 90% of the time in the summer. Just my two cents worth....
i'd really need the a/c here in florida, the humidity in the summer is a killer. you would sweat through your shirt in 5 minutes without the a/c.

Yep, A/C is a good thing in a high humidity area.

i used mine as a daily for about 15 or so years, but the mix of rain forest weather and the massive amount of salt they dump on the roads here every winter DESTROY old tin in a hurry (i'm on my 3rd cab right now) so the Ol' Pig is now just my summer fun ride
best mod i ever did: disc brake front end
- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...

My Bump is only used as a Daily Driver for short periods of time when my Focus is out of service. A week here, a week there. I drive about 20,000 miles a year and if drove the Bumpside daily, I'd wear her out and she'd kill my wallet. So the Focus handles about 95% of the yearly mileage. Plus the Focus has basic creature comforts like working heat, air conditioning, cruise control, power steering, an actual radio, door seals to keep rain out, overdrive, and a hydrulic clutch that's easy as pie to drive.

I've been driving mine to work now most days for the last two months; when it gets too cold to have the motorcycle out every day this time of year, I take the truck. I don't have far to go to get into work, but I also use it for barn work, runs to the hardware store or feed store, mountain trips, dump runs . . . you name it. Keeps the miles off my 4x4 and it's a lot of fun to drive. We took it up today to get a Christmas tree; wonderful drive. These trucks are just fun to get around in, and they are fun to be see in.

I was driving my 71 daily, until I bought my son a truck. I've been driving his truck to check it out. I did just do a hanger flip on my 71. I have a few gotta fix items on it right now, motor mount, rear axle bearing, leaking brake line... once those are fixed I will be driving her again. I normally drive it in the fall winter and spring. NO AC means not so much driving in the summer months.

I used to drive mine regularly before I start rebuilding. I got an average of 15mpg with my 302/3spd, 3.25 gears and 235/75 tires. When I went to 3.89 gears and 265/75 tires that dropped to more like 12mpg. Once I'm done with my build, I won't be using her as a DD preferring to keep a "disposable" $1500 beater import around for that purpose. When one dies, I just scrap it and buy another about every 2 years as required. My wife and I carpool with a 120 mile round trip per day so 30mpg is mandatory.

Frodo is a three seasons truck: spring, summer, and fall. He doesn't get driven in the winter due to the liquid salt mixture they use on the roads around here. He's an Arizona truck, very little rust and I want to keep it that way. I drive him when necessary, just for fun and hauling stuff. He's not my daily driver, though.

I do the same thing... my daily driver is a '98 Infinity that I paid $1300 for. I love it, it has cold air, heated seats, and gets 25 mpg. If gas was cheaper I'd drive the truck more. It sure is fun to get it out.

I'd love to drive my 71 but gas here in Nebraska isnt cheap when she only gets 14 MPG. Here in Omaha they dump salt all over the streets when it gets below 40 degrees and a threat of any precip? I've already seen a couple Interstate exits where they dumped salt and sand a week ago and it never even rained or snow. They do it as a preventative?? They use that liquid brine on the interstates and on newer paved roads in town and bodyshop guys tell me that stuff is really gonna rot the cars up because it gets in every crack and crevice underneath and cant ever be thoroughly rinsed away. Besides my girl only has 17,000 original miles and I dont want her depreciating out to quick on me. Ha Ha,She still looks like the day she rolled off the line.

Mine is a three season daily driver. I drive right till it starts to snow. On mine I am putting about 15 K a year mileage wise.

I use mine as a daily driver, but I live in a small town. A/C would be nice, but I like the wind in my hair....and sweat down my back!

My only complaint is the 3 on the tree, but then again that's why I bought it.

I just love driving the old trucks, people think I'm nuts, but hey it's paid for and gets the same gas mileage, if not better than the new trucks. I have taken it on the interstate at 75 mph and it goes just as straight as anything on the road, it revs a little bit high, about 4000 rpm. It pulls about 18 mpg on the highway, I usually get about 12 in town.

It's a little tricky in the snow, but I though some weight in the back and it's just fine...keeps me out of trouble!
