I had tried several times to buy my flareside from an elderly man without any luck. One day he called to say he had to go into an old folks home & couldn't take the truck with him and he would now sell it to me. I bought the truck & he was placed in the home.
The truck had been sitting up for years, but I had it running & roadworthy in a few weeks. I drove it up to the home & when he saw it driving into the home driveway he came out smiling from ear to ear. He thanked me over & over for getting it back on the road again. He was so excited to see the old blue flareside running again.
He passed on last week. His wife told me he never stopped talking about the old truck after I drove it up there. He was 81 years old. I'm so glad he got to see his old Ford running one more time before he passed.
Some people become attached to their vehicles; he sold you his memories when sold you that truck. You did a good deed when you took it back for him to see.
That is a nice story. I regret that I didn't have my '54 F-100 fixed up before my Grandpa died. Its not like I didn't have a lot of time. I bought the truck in 1977, he died in 1998, He lived to be 100! He did know that I was in the process of getting it painted however. My uncles and aunts (who had driven it when they lived at home) have appreciated it though.

Donnie: The wife of the gentleman I bought the truck from still resides in the same old folks home. My wife visits her every couple of weeks & sometimes takes her out shopping, dinner etc. She always ask about the old truck as she also became attached to it. I'm going up there hopefully next week driving the old flareside & take her out to dinner in it. I'm sure that will brighten her day! Have A Great Ford Day!

Very well spoken, and true as far as I'm concerned it's what our maker judges us by when that day comes. There are many I feel in "our wings" waiting to take over our tradition of these humble old Fords. Always brings a smile to my face knowing that. Let us know how the dinner goes with that bachelorette/ I bet she will be grinning from ear to ear for weeks!

The wife & I had full intensions of taking Mrs. Margaret out to dinner with the old truck today, but I got up early with a number 7 on a pain scale of 0-10. My pain meds wouldn't kick in, so I had to cancel till sometime later. Don't ever let anyone tell you living with stage 4 cancer isn't bad, because its rough. However I am determined to push on as long as possible. Have A Great Ford Day!
Hopefully you'll feel well enough to take her out in it soon. I'm sure it will be a true blessing for ya'll and her too.
