close call

Post by hedz »

been going through my pictures on my vacation. this was a serious close call. borrowed my buddies honda to go to oregon. when i came back i traveled on 40 through arizona and new mexico. when i got to new mexico i was on my way to madrid. about a hour out i pulled over to rest my eyes and call my roommate in atlanta. a cartel guy pulled up next to me in this g body. within a couple seconds a sherriff rolled up and he jumped out of the car and pulled out his pistol aimed it at the latino and threatened to shoot unless he got on the ground with his hands on his head. the latino reaches in his coat pocket for a gun. i think i'm about to get shot. i dive under the honda. the latino doesn't pull a weapon i guess because the second sherriff backup rolled up while i was diving under the car in between all these fools. the backup already had her pistol out the window in mid roll before her car was even stopped and yelling out the window. she steps out and the latino gives up. i get back in the car, shoot a picture through my drivers window. then get out and walk some yards away to get a full perspective. almost got caught in the middle of a crossfire. god bless all of you law enforcement. especially the guys who work in the border states. i know that all of you put your lives on the line every day and although i complain about mistreatment by johnny law or unlawful practice, there are those of you like these guys who deserve a medal. and the bad ones simply give the good ones a bad name. thanks for defending our society. just wait for me to duck next time :hd:

Where exactly was this picture taken? I live in Farmington and that looks like out south of San Ysidro or is it out from Santa Fe? Please don't let this reflect on NM but on the other hand a friend of mine is part of the SO department in our county and he says that where we live is the hub for Mexican meth traffic for the entire country. He swears that if there is a meth bust in our county, someone in Mexico dies the next day to cut the tie between the bust and the drug cartel in Mexico, don't know just saying. Sorry you had this happen to you.

Glad you got out without any issues. Agreed with Fuzzier as this happens all over now. South Florida to the mountains here in Tennessee-especially where the meth is involved. Our LEO's put their lives on the line everyday for us-most for peanuts of a paycheck... :(

You can bet New Mexico law enforcement is on the job. My son & I flew to Albuquerque a couple years ago to pickup & drive back a '89 5.0 Mustang I bought from an airman at the Air Force base. The car had an out of date Tennessee tag on it & temporary paper tag from New Mexico DMV taped to the rear window. It had been sitting on the lemon lot at the base for several years. It was really dirty & probably looked like something a drug head would be driving.

We headed out down Interstate 40 going east. At probably fifty miles we pulled into a gas station, bought a cooler, ice, drinks & a couple bottles of chocolate milk. Pulled back out on forty & didn't make it a quarter mile before being forced off the road by law enforcement. They jumped out pistols drawn, came up to the car on both sides & asked my son what was in the cooler. He said chocolate milk.

We told them what we were doing & they let us go. It was sort of scary & exciting at the same time. I told my son I could see those guys down at the station later that day. Yea, we stopped two flunkies with a cooler full of chocolate milk & soft drinks.LOL

i just can't remember exactly where. i know i was super close to albequerque?(i probably misspelled this town) i was very very tired. Instead of napping there i decided to go to my friends resteraunt The Hollar in Madrid where he gave me a free meal of chicken and grits topped with asparagus and a rye draft beer. I then caught up on sleep and slept almost a whole day. So my memory was very fuzzy from all the intense driving. I drove through that snow storm in arizona. I actually hydroplaned and spun the car 2 full revolutions but being the stick shift fanatic wannabe racedriver i downshifted to first from 5th in about 4 seconds and aimed myself at a snowdrift before the spins began. some chum ran me off the road by pulling in front of me. it was a intense trip so that's the best estimation location i can give you. that was the best sleep and food i had in my entire life(probably due to the timing)

If any of you go through NM please stop by The Hollar in Madrid NM for the best southern cooking, service, and quality draft beer money can buy!! i used to work beneath my good friend Mr. Novak who owns the restaurant. He kept Christophers in Opelika together until he decided to leave to start his dream out there. What a guy! He was the only thing keeping christophers together. best chef you will ever meet (i think he puts the famous face lot of chefs to shame)
