Looking for a Transporter, anybody done this beforse?

Post by buford »

Hey fellow Fordification Members, before I start my search for a Transport Company I thought I'd ask here first if anybody's found themselves in my situation, I just bought a 68 Ford shorty, driveable and can be transported open, if any of you have experiance with any company that transports cars and trucks and had positive results.

The last car I had transported was a 1930 Model A Ford. It was transported from Seattle, Washington to S.C. Took five days & cost $2800.00 fully insured & bonded. The company was Classic Auto Transport. Ph# 1-800-491-0846. :)

I bought a truck in florida about 4 years ago and got quotes of $1500 to bring it to Virginia, And would have to wait 4 weeks for delivery. I bought a relitive a plain ticket and gave them $600 to drive it back and i paid for the fuel.
Shipping prices have gone crazy the past 7-8 years, I had a truck transported 2000 miles in 02 and it was $800 i think.

Maybe try these guys? There used to be two different transporters here on the site.

I used DAS to ship my catalina cross country. I did not pay for the highest applicable coverage. and the vehicle arrived in perfect condition and on time. it takes a while for them to withdraw directly from your account though so be careful. But DAS is great!!!

I paid $900 to ship my truck from Phoenix to Philadelphia in 2007. It would probably cost more today.

I don't have any info on good shippers, but from the TV show shipping wars you sure as hell don't want to use U-SHIP if that is even really a shipping company.

Also might try Trusted First Shipping. I just scheduled them today to ship the 1968 Mustang California Special that I bought out in Nevada. Talked with Charles 760-585-7775. Good price. Will let you know about service and quality. Seems to know vintage cars.

After much research and looking at the BBB site I found this guy to be the best record on the BBB. Some others had a good rating also but with several "resolved disputes." His record had no disputes at the time I got him for shipping my F450.

I'd used DAS once before and won't likely ever use them again. They scratched the heck out of the roof on my 66 F250 and the drop spot was in a bad neighborhood and it was also the local impound lot. Place looked like a junkyard and in a bad part of that town too boot.

Good Luck...!!

I sold a "R" code 68.5 cougar last year and the people the buyer hired looked like they hauled junk cars. Showed up with a 80s diesel truck and a utility trailer. No idea of how to load it, Asking me if they could barrow stuff. And wanted to know if i wanted to sell anything they seen in my yard. These guys were almost entertaning,,,,,Almost

I had just had quad bypass 4 weeks earlyer and they kept asking me to give them a hand, Hell, i couldn't even clap. I just kept telling them i couldn't lift anything. I was glad when they left.
The new owner called me the next day to let me know he was happy with the car. I asked him what he thought of the hauler, Buyer said he wasn't real impressed with them and asked them to not take the car off the trailer because he could vision them doing something stupid and messing up the car.

Sometimes you have to pay a little more to get a little more. Make sure to have plenty of pictures before it gets moved.

 Did they have cameramen following them around, because that sounds just like the TV show shipping wars. That is run by U-SHIP.

I didn't see any cameras, But sure seemed like the cheapest movers he could find. Said it was thier 5th moveing job they had
They were trying to sell me wheelie bars for $50, MSD box for $100 and 3-4 other things. I've never been so happy to see two people leave  Reminded me of Heckle&Jeckle. Remember them, The two crazy cartoon crows that were always talking trash.
