Farming out mech work
I have always done my own mechanical work, but I recently treated myself and it felt good. The 68 had developed the proverbial peeing. Instead of fixing it myself I took it to a life long friend that owns a local garage. Had him replace the water pump for me. Ahhhhhh, felt good to watch instead of do. Anymore it is easy to get down, but harder to get back up.

Sometimes I am forced to do the same thing, however I don't trust half of the mechanics around here. Last year I had a new u-joint installed. When the mechanic brought the truck around, I asked if he greased it. He said no, new joints come greased from the factory.I said, if you plan on getting paid shoot some grease into it now. What if the factory forgot to grease that one?

I hear ya, but this is a guy I trust and I figured it helps support the economy in this little burg of 800
I also have a friend who is about 30 years younger than me. He and his wife work hard and have 5 young daughters. I hire him to do things around the place I could do, but I am fortunate. (Not rich, but I get by.)

Re: Farming out mech work
I just did some farming out. $550.00 for steering box rebuild. They rebuilt my box for $250.00
so I paid $300.00 labor to avoid the headaches involved, and my hands are nice and clean.
sure looks nice down there.

keeping clean is good, but I don't mind getting dirty/greasy. It is the old bones that I look out for these days.ximy wrote:I just did some farming out. $550.00 for steering box rebuild. They rebuilt my box for $250.00
