Hard Times For Some People
My closest neighbor about three hundred yards away is unemployed & lives in a 3000 sq. ft. house. I got the wife to bake a pound cake a couple hours ago. When she took it out of the oven, I had her cut it in half & I delivered it to the neighbor while it was still hot. I didn't realize it, but he has no heat. He came to the door wearing a stocking cap & a huge overcoat. He is living in one room with a small electric heater. I hope the hot cake warmed him up a little.

Also blessed to have work-as I too went without for a fairly long period recently. Kudos to you for the awesome gesture. There are several of us HVAC guys on here / wish I were closer / and would do all I could to get them some heat. Any idea if they have gas or electric heat?

Has he been unemployed for a while? Is it health or just can't find work? Sad.

He has a heat pump & it is in working condition, but he can't afford the current to run it. I think his major problem is he has no real trade. All he has ever done is sell insurance. He does live by himself, so there is no family suffering with him.

Dont want to be a prick...But 1 man does not need a 3000 sg. foot home?? He needs to help himself. Move into something he can afford.

If he has a mortgage and doesn't find gainful employment, the problem of heating the house will remedy itself through foreclosure. IF, on the other hand, he has paid for the house then it's not really anyone's place to say a man that worked to buy and pay for the house doesn't deserve or "need" it. Who determines what is the right sized house for someone else? or how much money someone else can make?guerra wrote:Dont want to be a prick...But 1 man does not need a 3000 sg. foot home?? If you worked to earn the money to buy your two F-series trucks, then it's your business to have them. --to an environmentalist though, they would probably disagree to your right, or "need", for them.

Dang ..I resemble that remark. But I'd rather have a 1,200 sq.ft. home with a 10-car garage.guerra wrote:Dont want to be a prick...But 1 man does not need a 3000 sg. foot home?? He needs to help himself. Move into something he can afford.

The house & 238 acres of land was left to this gentleman by his Mom when she passed some years ago. It is the old homeplace where he was raised.
