Naw...that's not what it means at all!
It's what all of us do that own 67-72 Ford trucks every time we open the hood!
We "bump" our heads on the hood latch mechanism!

SOLD-71 F-350 dually flatbed, 302 / .030 over V-8 with a "baby"C-6, B & M truckshifter, Dana70/4.11 ratio, intermittent wipers, tilt steering, full LED lighting on the flat bed, and no stereo yet (this way I can hear the rattles to diagnose)! SOLD!
Many Ford bumps / one 76' EB / and several dents through the years.
A lot of "oddball" Ford parts collected from working on them for 34 years now!

very true, I've been thinking of making a sock of some sort to put over that thing when I'm under the hood. Perhaps an oven mitt.

LIft hood all the way up, clamp vise-grips to the flat spots on the hinge, do not fail to remove before trying to close hood. This keeps it up where the factory originally intended.
