opinions on 1967 F100 purchase

Trucks are just starting to go up in price - although crazy - see what they are going for in the Mecum type auctions.
I guess 'old' cars are starting to run out

Frame notch for rear is scary.

The notch looks kinda scary, Id like to see the loop ground off flush with the framerail.

I call that far worse than "kinda" scary. Whoever built up this truck has absolutely no idea what he's doing. Based on the photographs I would consider this truck totally unsafe to drive and unfit for the road. It does appear to have been boxed in on the inside, but with so little cross section left in the frame rail, there's almost nothing left to support the weight of the truck. If it ever got hit in the rear, figure that she would fold up like cardboard. Even in regular driving, under fatigue from road undulations, it's very possible that a crack will develop. Frightening.

EDIT: I should also add that the welding appears to be poor in a lot of spots, too. I definitely see welds that I would reject.

I am not saying that this truck isn't overpriced too, but this truck is MUCH nicer than the one you were considering and this one is just about the same price. Just pointing out what that kind of money could get you compared to what you were looking at. Again, I think this one is probably closer to a 10K truck, but then again, it is a highboy:

Not a highboy, it's not even a 4x4. He calls it a "prerunner", others would call it a "faux by faux". Also he doesn't say what transmission is in it (this one's got a column shifter, so it's either an automatic or a 3-on-the-tree) and he simply says the engine is a "351" (is it a 351 Windsor, Cleveland, or M?). The body looks clean but I don't think it's worth $10K.

It popped up and looked nice, so I guess I wrote before realizing what that truck was actually all about. I will agree, not even a 10K truck... Maybe 7k tops... I was giving it a 10k off the thought that it was a highboy.

I have been looking at the local short beds now just to see what the prices and everything I am seeing is overpriced in my opinion. Here is another that is at 8k... But it seems that the shortbeds are marked up quite a bit more than they were about a year ago. You can still buy a longbed all day long for $500 to $1500, but I cant seem to find a decent deal on a short bed right now. Looks like the Shorty parts truck i bought for $650 a year ago was a steal!

Personally I have never understood the short bed thing. It burns the same amount of fuel, and costs more to buy, but holds less stuff in the bed. Also it looks funny being that short. To each his own. I'd much rather stick with trucks I can put a 4x8 of plywood into.

Well, for that reason alone, they are more rare as there was not the demand for them which kept their production numbers low. But the short beds are in demand for those using their trucks as hot rods and not so much as actual trucks. I appreciate a long bed for its usefulness and my crew cab (which is already long) has a long bed on it making it a friggen land yacht. But for those that lower their trucks, put fast motors in them, and basically use them as a muscle car, the short bed works better and looks good in that role.

I appreciate all your guys opinions on the 67 f100. The prices on these old Fords have gone up and are still rising. A really well done f100 short can easily get $15,000 if it's done right and well. I know that sounds crazy but I have been watching the prices for about a year. The white one has had 8,000 miles put on it since it was built with no problems supposedly. The guy that built has built many vehicles including some old woodys that have sole in the excess of $100,000 and local shops say good things about his work. I don't know anything about C notching so I am going to take your word that it is sketchy. Trust me If could find a sweet lowered f100 done right for under $8,000 any where in the US I would ship it out here.

That is a good starter for sure. But if I got it for $5,000 I would be at $11,000 by the time I shipped it and did a motor swap and changed that hideous interior.No money left for paint. I guess I am going to have to be patient.

If you just want a 302, they are very cheap to build. Or just find a good used HO, usually go for $400-$500 around here. truck interiors are cheap. I will agree, the c notch looks unsafe, and it appears this truck was thrown together cheap and quick, with the thinking that "hey, these things are bringing some money, lets throw one together quick and cash out". Guys TV must be junk if this is nicer than what he sees on there. Hardware store door handles, wires showing on steering column, rusty cab corners etc. I bought a short box for $175 last week, about all that is good is the frame . Have a pretty good cab and a long box to cut down. I am after this:

Here is a 67 shorty that looks nicer than the 12k one you posted... This guy wants 10k. I still think that is too much, but this is a pretty nice truck and might be what you are looking for. There are no pictures of the lowering though...
