1969 F350 Flatbed - trying to purchase
Negotiating for this rig...... will update as more info is available.
Mechanically bone stock 360FE, NP435, nice big west coast mirrors and strait grille. Most every body part has been worked and has bondo and rust - but I have access to enough solid steel to make the cab/front clip 100% rot free.
This would be my first 1 ton - anything mechanically I need to be looking for with brakes and the Dana 70 rear???
Thoughts and ideas appreciated.

Good thing that is a dually when it comes to your front brakes... The disc brakes for the 69 F350 SRW trucks have been discontinued and you cannot get rotors for them anymore. Ask me how I know... I was able to find the last 2 rotors (online) for a 69 F250 SRW truck. I think RockAuto still has 1, but that is it.
Anyway, the brakes for the DRW trucks are still made and easily available. So you are all good in the brake department.

Is it a dump bed? If so that would make it more valuable. How is the interior?? And what is the price?

Nice to know about the disc brakes for SRW 350's. Are the front rotars that much different than a 250?abe wrote:Is it a dump bed? If so that would make it more valuable. How is the interior?? And what is the price?
It is not a bump dump but at $500 plus all the steel I can harvest to make her right AND the bed frame is very nice I can hardly pass on it. I am just waiting on the owner to shake hands which should happen Saturday.
The bed wood will need replaced which isn't a biggie. Interior is roached badly and I have easy access to several nice(r) bench seats - but the basic chasis, engine, wiring harness etc is intact and unmolested best I can tell. Engine runs but is leaking oil and tired and will serve as a good solid rebuildable core later in life if ever needed....the 428 block I have in the shop really needs sold, but I digress. The NP 435 is solid and tight, shifts nice! I do have 3 or 4 NP's in the shop if this one is bad. Thinking about bolting in some 78-79 Buckets from a Bronco for the 350 interior.
It is definitley a project truck for me over the several months. If I can work this deal, it should provide some great father son time dismantling to the ground and restoring. Always wanted a bump side dually and since I heat with wood I thought it would make a nice firewood rig and it will help keep my dent free beds dent free in my '76 Highboy and my '68 M250 plus provide a very good tow rig.
The Highboy is getting a fresh 390 4V just as soon as the machine shop gets to it (been waiting a few months) and the Mercury M250 has a fairly fresh (15,000 mile) 390 4V which I will put in the F350 when the time comes. The Mercury M250 will lose the C6 and FE and gain a 300 4V and an NP435 spring 2014. The Merc will be my main driver and with 3.73 gears and a 300 inline it should be better than the 11-12 mpg I am getting now. I hope.
This rig will/should complete my truck desires until I die. What man needs more than 3 Ford trucks??
Thanks for the input - anyone else has $0.02 to add??

Re: 1969 F350 Flatbed - trying to purchase
Thanks, I bought for the same reason yo0u want the F350 flatbed... to take hauling pressure off my good truck, 54 F-100. And in september the 54 stopped running so I needed something to haul brush, mulch and lawnmowers.... And I always wanted a dump bed. The sheet metal is good, it is getting some rust on the lower doors that I want to address before it gets too bad.... runs good (now after some electrical and ignition problems), doesn't use any oil....feefie wrote:Abe, That is a great looking candy red 350!!

Re: 1969 F350 Flatbed - trying to purchase
I am pretty sure my 17 year old daughter totaled my wife's 2008 Ford Fusion Friday afternoon (2/15) so who knows exactly where I will be on this F350 purchase today - delayed for sure but....... Everyone involved is fine but the whole front clip is munched including radiator, core support, hood, bumper cover, lower and upper valences and the air bag deployed........ the car looks a bit like Harry Gant's old Winston Cup car after a race at Bristol!! I checked her cell phoone in front of the police officer (also a buddy of mine) who worked the wreck and noted that NO text messages had been sent since the previous day so atleast she probably wasn't disctracted by her phone.
I am not sure about front suspension/driveline...plus any other minor item I did not notice on my inital glance. Happy everyone is safe but obviously bummed about it all for sure.......
My boy who owns this '69 F350 and has several other bumps in his backyard, will likely allow me to delay this deal for a month or two. There aren't a bunch of people lined up to buy any of his trucks so we will see. We are old friends and he is the owner of my old '64 Fairlane Thunderbolt clone I sold last summer (picture of her in my gallery)....we can still strike a deal I am sure.
I am going to give my wife my '12 Taurus and I will find a later model Crown Vic for my family/daily hauler. We drive many miles daily due to our very rural location of home vs. work so I am going back to my roots with a Crown Vic. I have owned 3 Special Service Crown Vics over the last 18 years with mileage in excess of 250k on each engine with no mechanical issues. Tried and true works for me. Located a '98 Crown Vic in town with 14,460 original miles on it. One very elderly owner over the last 15 years, garage kept and like new. They are asking $8k for it so I guess I will go check it out today too. Not sure what KBB is on it, will research it in a bit. I only worry about the age of this ride.....If I buy it, It will roll about 30k miles per year so it won't be long before miles pile up.
Trucks are always reserved for fair weather driving to preserve the steel as much as possible.......
Going to be gutt sick about this for a while.....

Re: 1969 F350 Flatbed - trying to purchase
Your Fusion faired far worse than my wife's Fusion. KBB has this car valued fairly low and given the amount of damage I am pretty sure (body shop is too) it is a duster. This is a high mileage car even though it is an 08 and been well cared for and maintained. I went by to check out the '98 Crown Vic yesterday. KBB has it valued between 5400 and 6400. Dude has it listed for 8900. I will throw $5k at it to see if he will bite.... a few folks who know him think he will take it. We will see. No way I would pay more than 5k for a daily driver that is 15 years old. I worry about anything plastic breaking or cracking throught time - but it was garage kept.
