History of your truck?

Post by jets4343 »

The father of a buddy may of came across a '41 Ford truck that the farther and grandfather used to haul moonshine and supplies back in the day. The present owner has restored it and says it is the one they used to own. We live in VA and from what we have been told the old records in Richmond are in paper form and it takes an act of congress to get it researched. Does anyone have any idea how we can track down the past owners of this truck? We have the VIN#. Thanks for any and all help!

Keep us posted on this story, it sounds like a truly great American tale that needs documented and preserved in some way! Try writing a fromal letter to the DOT archives department.
They may even allow you to research this yourself under some supervision like in the reserved section of a library.

Some of us enjoy history alot, some of us enjoy history of cars and trucks involving history that much more. I have some West Virginia bootleggers in my family from way back....good thing the are all dead or they would be in jail for their creativve ways to earn a buck to survive. hiccup

Years ago Ford Archives would research vehicles and VIN numbers and respond by letter. I have mine from 1998 for my 1971 F-100 4x4. Long about the time I posted this information to the FTE (sorry to curse) website they were overwhelmed and all but stopped replying to requests.

Good luck researching. '41 Ford trucks are very sexy rigs!! Documenting this truck would make a great short story.

I have a 35 Chevy (gasp!) that I found in a field in Hanover county. Luckily it was originally a Civilian Conservation Corps truck and I was able to track it's life from there to the National Forest Service at George Washington's Birthplace National Park until it was auctioned off after WW2, used as a construction truck until the late 60's and eventually pushed into the field I found it in. Dealing with the idiots in Richmond is pointless. There are a few companies that do title searches you might try. I used one years ago called Dealers Exchange in Henrico but, I don't know if they're still around.

Well my 68 started out life as a F250 with 240 6 three on tree truck and in the mid 70s orginal owner wreck it and a junk yard bought and put a 427 4V and put a 4 speed bulldog with Dana 60 with 4.11 gear. The truck was orginal a 71 change it to a 68 front end and then put F 600 springs under the rear end and in bed wrecker. My uncle both in the late 70s and used it as a shop truck and pulled it in the fair.he blew the 427 up and dropped a 360 in it .Then he got a new truck in 82 and let it sit behind the shed intil 2010 I bought it
