Finally got her started...new motor

Post by dablack00 »

Well, it took me two years, but I finally got her started. This thing has been a garage ornament for two years. Back in 2004, I pulled the distributor to swap in an aluminum intake and holley 750 on my worn 460 in my 71 F100 short bed. Well, I got everything back together and started it up to take it to be inspected (inspection was out). I get about 5 miles down the road and it starts making a little noise. Seconds later, I get a BOOM and smoke out from under the hood. I tow it home and pull the motor. On dissassembly, i find the distributor drive shaft in the pan. No OIL= motor go boom! So I start building a new motor.

port some D3VE heads and have them rebuilt
bored the block and put in higher compression 30 over pistons
performer intake
holley 750 VS
long tube headers
mild cam
recurved duraspark dizzy
200 amp alt
Soon to come e-fan and AC

I have been slowly working on this and this past weekend I finally started it up to brake in the cam. It took a couple of trys as I was having carb problems, no it finally took it first breath Sunday afternoon. I'm still having carb issues, but its a start.

I'm still having idle problems and I think it is a bad vacuum leak. I'm going to have to pull the intake and reset it. No big deal. I just need it back on the road, because I think the motor in my 68 cougar is about to go. I've been using the 68 cougar as my daily driver.
