Leaving Your Truck To Your Kid

Post by 68 Ford Stepside »

My oldest son wants my old flareside when I bite the dust. I have agreed to do that, but was thinking today about leaving it to him in better condition. Within the next six weeks, I plan on having a rebuilt long block with RV cam set installed locally. Also will be installing a new radiator, clutch set & alternator. Probably will also have the front suspension rebuilt with new bushings & king pins etc.

I think he will enjoy the truck much more with the above done before he takes ownership. :)

Hopefully that is still a ways down the road. But I think the condition that you have to give him is that he joins up here or takes over your account so the truck and family remains a part of this family!!

That is a fantastic thought. Consider it done when the time comes. :)

That's pretty cool.
Not sure what I'm going to do with my goodies when I croak. My kid is a turd, I wouldn't give him bus fare.

Everything is ready, set, go. Carolina Engine Rebuilders is starting a core rebuild today including a high torque cam & lifters. The installer is ordering a new radiator, clutch set, alternator, voltage regulator etc. today. He plans to either resurface the flywheel or replace it. The total price for everything is $2493.00. I'm excited & can hardly wait to see how the old flareside performs. :D

Sounds like a very special plan ya got there. I am passing my late wife Vicki's 2010 Escape to one of our daughters when I take the plunge for my new Lariet. Hope one of the girls wants my 68 CS when the time comes.

I sold my Edsel and my '34 Hot Rod Lincoln to my son who is a well educated mechanic and partsman for $1 each and got it on paper. That way, assuming he will live longer than me, he and his family will continue to enjoy them and be legal in the eyes of any contesting that might happen. Other than that, if anyone gets anything it will be because of a major miscalculation on my part. :D

I don't know what I'm going to do with mine (and other stuff) either. :(

Well, my engine builder promised me my engine would be completed by last Wednesday. So much for promises. Now he says maybe by next Friday. I told him I was running short on time and I expect a man to keep his word. I'm from those days when a handshake was as good as any contract on paper.

Hopefully he gets it done by his new deadline at least. Nowdays, it always seems like everything takes longer than planned. I know we started the engine swap into CNM67's truck on Thursday March 7th with plans that the truck would be started and driving by the morning of March 9th. That truck did not drive away until last night on the 15th.

But our situation is quite different than yours. I hope that it gets done soon. I would love to hear that you are able to enjoy the truck in its refreshed form for a while!!

The installer called this morning. The engine is built & ready for installation. I deliver the truck to the shop Monday. He says I can pick it up on Wednesday, but I'll wait & see. I am a little impatient. I want to see if the high torque cam & lifters makes much difference from stock & to see if the gas mileage goes up or down. I average about 16 mpg in its stock form. :)
