Hey guys - question:

What are you guys doing to replace the seal in the vent window frame? I don't see a replacement sold anywhere, is everyone just reusing it? If I try to get it out I'm sure it'll just snap into pieces, so I'll have to paint the frame with it in place. I lightly blasted it for clean-up, (can't seem to get the handle to come off either) I wanted to powercoat the frame, but I obviously can't with the seal in there. Any help? :hmm:

That part from LMC is the seal for the outer frame that the vent window seats into. I kept the window and seal in place and just taped over them while I painted the frame. LMC does sell a seal that comes in a roll for the side window track that you may be able to use (49-9300). For the handle there is a small roll pin that you have to tap out and the handle should come right off.

Thanks guys! I was afraid of that. I do have the rolled seal from DC (I believe they call it tape) for the side window lift channel like you're talking about Jeff, I could try that. But once I pry the old seal out there's no going back, ha. I guess there's nothing wrong with reusing what's there and just taping if off like you did. The rubber is not cracked or crusty or anything, just dry and hard. Hmm..

Oh - and yes I tapped the pin out, but the stupid handle just doesn't wanna let go, but I'll get it!

Thanks again!

I just called a local glass guy and he told me he would have to look at them to make sure its the same but he said they normally tear out the old seals and use a special rubbery tape type stuff and can make a new one for me. Apparently its all a wider(not thicker) size and they get it wedged in there and trim it down so it looks stock. So you may want to check a glass shop around you and see if they can do it for you too.

What Cipher43 said, I took a small propane torch heated up the frame and the rubber stuff and pulled it apart. Then went and had a local glass shop "glue" my vent windows back into the frame. I also did the same thing for my channels on my side windows as well.

Excellent, thanks guys!! I already have the tape for the side window lifts, so I'll use it for this and order more for the lift channels. I'll attempt this myself as I recently got a quote from my local glass shop to cut a new back glass, and it was $300! WTF. To me that just means they didn't want to mess with me, and that's fine. I ordered a new one for $70.

I'll tackle this this weekend and let you guys know how it goes. Thank you!! :fr:

Just read the whole the whole thread front to back and all I can say is WOW. I think it's safe to say that you're definitely not a rookie anymore. I can't wait to see it all come together.

Tyler, I keep coming back to your thread to take notes. Just wanted to let you know, I'm stealing errr.. borrowing a lot of ideas from you.

The only thing I might throw in, & you might already know it, but, since your using the '73+ cantilever style booster mounts, you'll have to extend the bracket for your brake light switch. Your brake pedal will sit closer to the floor now ( like the '73+ trucks). Or you can use an adjustable brake light switch like this one.

You might even have an adjustable switch, but my '71 has the non adjustable "snap in" style switch on it.

Thanks, SuperDave! It's true, I don't feel like a rookie anymore, this project has given me the confidence to tackle others. Some of which are being planned in my head against my will, and are getting in the way of focusing on this one!
