To Mr. Spammer, I'm sure it's your job to com on here and post stuff for your clients but please try to not corrupt members threads with your 'advertisements'. Start a new thread, it'll get deleted within a couple hours if not sooner. Your ID and IP address with get banned, have a nice day.

To the members, just report spam threads, once per spammer. We don't need a dozen reports on one guy.

Note that if your thread on 'c@rpet clea@ing' gets deleted it's because it was attracting spammers.

I am not sure exactly how the "report post" stuff works on your end but we cannot see if a thread/post has been reported already. The last spam thread I hit the report button because I saw it was new and got a message saying it was "reported already". I did not think it went through. If there is some way to show that a thread/post has been reported, I think that would be beneficial. Until then who ever reports it first should also make a reply stating they reported it so other members know.

The report thing doesn't work well, I don't see it on the 'moderator control panel' at all. I just browse the sub-forums, delete the trash threads and check the new members when I get on and clean up that mess as it happens. I lost my internet privs at work (something about 4 hrs a day didn't set too well ).

We are not quite moderating with one hand tied behind our back but we are blessed that the membership is so well mannered.

Reminds me when I had a board with a lot of Chinese spammers visiting. I wrote back to their email with lots of words that would trigger their censors. Suddenly I stopped getting Chinese spam. Think they added me to the great firewall

When you report a post it shows up for the moderators as highlighted and has an exclamation icon.

Also we have an information button that will show us if there is another poster using the same IP I get a fair number of them using that as well.

I agree the moderation portion of this software is clunky.

Well I am going to ask the ultimate question.
How do I tell if it is a spammer?

Single post count, usually about coach purses or English plumbing supplies... When I log on I just go to the members page, see who joined in the middle of the night and they are usually spammers. 3-4 per day for a good long time.

Dump the cache without preserving favorites, fixes it every time for me...

I was sort of thinking about editing their post to imply something dirty and sorted and then locking it so they couldn't edit it...

I suppose that would be getting down to their level.

I did that, a couple times on both the house and garage puter. Neither would work for long. Firefox isn't much better but at least it lets me resend the info. I keep getting a connection reset error

One thing you guys might reiterate to memebers is that personal email addy's in posts is not allowed here. I have been seeing alot of email addy's in posts & noticed a substancial increase in spamming.
