You know you're getting old when.......

Post by popeyes71 »

As I'm getting older and I look back and ponder on the many project builds that I have done, I've noticed some differences in in my current build. What I've noticed:

Doing things you used to do yourself without a moments hesitation, like pulling a tranny or taking off a hood becomes "I'll wait until my neighbor gets home".

Instead of diving under the car, tools in hand, you stare down at the creeper and think "Sh*t, here I go, do I have everything I need?"

"Car lifts are for wimps", has been replaced by "I really need a car lift".

Long days and nights in the shop are now a couple hours work and a nap.

Anything else to add?

When you don't have the muscle to open the old pickle jar anymore, but your kid can spin it open with two fingers.

You work on the car for six hours and your back hurts for three days. Just replaced the timing belt on my Toyota DD. GROAN!

I thought of this post the other day when hooking up a trailer in the snow. I had to crawl under it to fix the ball hitch. The younger me would have just climed under the trailer in the snow and slush and just did it. The older me got a tarp and layed it down over the snow and slush before climbing under the trailer.

Then the older me got in the truck and put on my fresh dry gloves and put my wet ones by the heater. The younger me would have only had one pair of gloves or none at all.

They know you by first name at the pharmacy and you take a handful of pills each night that is larger than your main course at supper.

I try to learn from some of this LOL.

I keep a tarp and a mover's blanket handy now, because there is no need to get wet or dirty, even if I'm still in my early 30's. I figure if I start doing things the old fart way now, I might be a bit better off when I'm shaking my fist and youngsters and telling them to get off my lawn.

it's only ten bucks more to have my oil changed at the local ''valvoline" franchise. they do good work and it's double checked. i wouldn't have even known or cared ten years ago. (btw, you don't even have to get out of your car). lol

The "Kid Down The Road" has gray hairs.
You search Craigslist for those cheesy full running boards that you wouldn't have allowed on your truck a while back.
You're proud of that big honkin' rear bumper because you can use it to climb up, more than it's pulling power.
