Where else can I get the information listed on Vehicle Tag?

I am new to the forum and ownership of a Ford truck. My son and I have taken on a '72 F100 4x4 with the short wheelbase as a project truck. The guy we bought it from told us it had a 351M as the motor, yet as we have looked at it and the did the V.I.N. decoding tricks, it was originally released with the 360. The identification tag is missing from the door. Does anyone know where else I can get the information? I would like to know what gearing it has in the final drive, and all the other handy stuff that is normally listed there.

You can get a ton of info on your truck from the Marti report if you buy it. You can get a reproduction door tag as well if needed. They have a few different packages they offer at different prices, but the $40 should tell you all the info that you need, including when your truck was ordered, built, shipped, sold, what options it had, and what dealership sold it, etc...

Sounds like maybe the truck has had some changes since it was built. Not a real surprise. Best bet is to inspect the ID tags on the diffs, check the diff bolt patterns, etc and see what you actually have. You can also check the valve cover bolt pattern on the engine if you're not sure what engine is in the truck. I'm not well versed in this but the info is online here (do a search).

If you're missing the data plate on the door, about the only thing you can do at this point is order a marti report like Calfdemon mentioned. Since Marti uses the VIN number, they should be able to recover all the info you're missing.

Also as toddspeed mentioned, the easiest way to I.D. Ford V8's is by counting the bolts on the valve covers.

The VIN itself is actually on the frame in 2 spots. But I believe he has his VIN. He is missing the door plate with all of the extra info and this extra info is what he was asking about. For that, he will have to send his VIN off for a Marti Report.

But the VIN itself is on the top of the frame on the front passenger side down near where the Altenator sits. The 2nd VIN is on the top of the frame somewhere under where the cab sits.
