E rated 16" trailer tires

Guys whats yalls thoughts on 16" 10 ply TIRES for a car hauler. ive got 235 85 16s on it now but am going to go with a lower profile cause they get to close to the fenders with a heavy load. My main question is bias or radial? I have found some 7.50 x 16 bias for around $450 shipped to house. The radials that are close to the same weight rating are $600-$700 for a set of 4. The more i think about it i really need to buy at least 5 so i have a new spare also. My issue is i only use trailer right now around 3 times a year and all 4 of the tires on it had great tread and they are blowing the tread off setting in the driveway. There holding air still. I want what ever will hold up best in my situation so what yall think?

Hello Greg, I just put a set of radial ten ply 16" tires on the flareside last month. The four of them was $800.00 installed. I really don't like bias tires for a truck, trailer or anything else. If you buy a set of tire covers & use them, you shouldn't have to worry about dry rot as exposure to the sun is what causes dry rot. The Good Year tires on my motorhome have a chemical in them that keeps the sun from dry rotting them.

I have put 5 sets of tires on my trailer since I built it 13 years ago. I've used bias and radials, really never noticed a difference related to bias or radial on the trailer. Different brands wore and handled loads differently. The china crap tires are toast in about 10K miles at their rated capacity.

If you only use it a few times a year put the cheapest crap you can buy on there. No reason to spend anymore. If you need to rely on it for cross country trips and max weight then spend accordingly.

I use it to haul my trucks to meets and shows so thats what im worried about. My last trip i lost the tread and tore my fender and light up. I was able to drive it another 75 miles as i left my tire tool at the house. Do the bias tires loose the treads or just wear out? I have always been amazed at some of the old pickups i pickup and they have bias tires that look good and hold air. I do plan on doing some firewood this year also.

Bias has nothing to do with your tires falling apart.

You get what you paid for usually. Stay away from Chinese bombs. I also recommend that you stay away from Cooper. I have many reasons on that one as well. What ever tire you go with, I change mine out every three years. This was on my fifth wheel and I didn’t ever want to go through fixing damages again. Hankook are doing well on truck and trailer so far. Keep shopping

WE HAVE tried all types of tires on our trailer, which we run 14 ply, reason got a ticket in Texas for overweight on the rating of the tires, then put out of service,,,,,, Anyway we run Hankook's they balance out good don't bounce, if your going cheap on trailer tires you will pay down the road especilly when a blowout rips the fenders off, or knocks the bearings. Balance the trailer tires, cause if they vibrate you will feel it, our trailer is 40' long and we felt it all the way in the cab of the truck, so cheap is not the way.........
