Just Gotta Rant

Post by wildcard »

I know it's been said many times what a great website this is. And I agree completely. :fr: :fr: :fr:
I bought an 85 F150 a few months ago. Still have the 71 for now. I've asked a few questions about the 85 on here and gotten friendly, helpful and informative responses. But, I figured I should find a website for that particular truck. Don't want to wear out my welcome here with questions about the 85.
So I find a site for F150's and intro myself and go post a question. Finally get a response. The guy first wants to know "WHY" I think I need to do what I'm doing. Shouldn't matter to him, I'm thinking. :x Then gives me a link to learn how to post photos. And proceeds to explain how to remove the piece I asked about.
OK. So I'm pretty easy to get along with and try to overlook people when they get an attitude. Maybe he was having a bad day.
I get back and tell him I still can't figure it out by his directions because I'm not finding the screws he is describing to remove. And I can't figure out the complicated directions for posting photos. I did finally get a photo posted. Not in the right spot, but he got it.
Today he wants to know why I couldn't post the pic in the right spot and why it didn't show any of the screws and knobs removed like he told me to. The way his response is worded he comes off like he's reprimanding me because I couldn't do exactly as he told me to. My Daddy never talked to me like that and he sure as hell aint.
So FORDification members, give yourselves a big pat on the back for making this the best, user friendly website ever. :hd:  :hd:
I haven't answered back yet and not sure I'm going to. I'll probably just ignore him and take it to a shop.
Thanks for letting me rant. My wife Thanks you too.

I think some people forget that we were each a newbie when we started learning about our hobby (Ford trucks). They assume that everyone should know what they know. I have learned that alot of what I THOUGHT I knew about bumpsides wasn't quite right. We must ALL keep our egos in check on a daily basis. I've learned that we can do it ourselves, or someday we will make a fool of ourselves which I find to be very humbling.

The question was, How do you get the panels off to get to the wiper switch to replace it. For some reason the lower left corner won't release. Naturally that's where the switch is. I feel like there's a screw behind the dash panel between the inst. bezel and the door. But I don't see how it comes off either.

But why do you want to do that? And where are the photos that you should have posted so we know exactly what you are talking about? And why are you posting stuff on this site about an 85 truck? Why is the sky blue and who did you vote for in the last election?!?! :D :hn: :fte: :fr:

Pretty much the same as everything else, you need to get the knob out of the wiper and light switch. Same PITA button you have to push to get the light switch shaft out.

For the wiper you have to use a small screwdriver and release the back of the knob. On those trucks I think the instrument bezel has to come off to get to the bezel nut.

If your google-fu is strong you can find lots of pictures.

OK, OK. I should have seen all that coming.
I learned my lesson about the dark side. It wasn't FTE for what it's worth. I've seen enough complaints about that one.
But my biggest problem is getting the panels/bezels off to get to the nut that's barely holding the switch on. I've had the wiper knob off once. And had out all the screws I can find. I feel like I'm missing one.
Calfdemon, the sky isn't blue here today. Done had right at 3 inches of rain since noon.
I'll try to get a pic or two if it ever stops raining.
Thanks guys
