Hi guys and gals, after lurking here for years, even after registering, Ive finally found my truck and am in the process of getting it. I need to be able to safely tow it home though.
Its a 1967 F250 2wd Crew that is completely stock. What I'm having a hard time finding out is the front track width, or the measurement between the outside of the front tires. The wheelbase being 149' is too long for your average U-Haul car trailer, but I would like to see if it will fit on your average tow dolly. I believe they list the maximum width for a U-Haul dolly as 70-72". What I see in the Fordification literature for a 1967 F100 is a track width of roughly 60", but no mention of F250, wheel width(I am assuming 6"?), backspacing, or tire width.
It seems like it would be very close, but it may work. If anyone here has any help, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

A looong ways. About 1200-1300 miles.
Its a 4spd. Manual. But I plan on disconnecting the driveshaft at the rearend for towing.
I can easily get a tow bar and flat tow it, but I'd feel more comfortable with a dolly or trailer. And I'd also be concerned about how to hook up the tow bar brackets while being so far away from home, without access to fabricating equipment.

That's a long way to tow dolly or flat tow with out extra braking.
Maybe you could rent a trailer with brakes from a place that sells trailers ?
or buy one and sell it when you're done?

We have a trailer mfg.co. that rents them they are MUCH easier to deal with than the national rental co's are.
With as far as you need to go it might be cheaper in the long run to pay a commercial hauler to do it,if you and the seller are flexible as to the scheduling
you might be able to get a reasonable price,we had a '76 HighBoy hauled from San Diego to Bakersfield for $300.00 but we waited till the broker found someone headed this way
with space and the seller was very helpful with his time.

Re: Finally getting my dream truck! Towing questions.
Thanks guys, I went ahead and picked up a car trailer(with brakes). I just didn't feel comfortable with the U-Hauls. The dolly might have worked but was too close for comfort, and the U-Haul trailer was wide enough and probably would have worked, but was too short for comfort. The trailer I got didn't cost any more than the U-Haul, and I'll spend more in fuel hauling it up there empty, but I feel much more comfortable with a trailer that will handle it easily.
