Help with engine swap?
I have a 69 f100 with a 302 in it which blew a piston and wrecked the block. I found a 351M with transmission and all, good running for $600. so I hope that some of you can help me with some questions? The engine came out of a 74 half ton ford can I use the engine perch in my truck and the radiator? If there is more that I need to know can you please help me out? This is a good time to do this cause I'm down to the bare frame and rebuilding my whole truck. Thanks Buff

Re: Help with engine swap?
Welcome from GA.
I have a 400 Ford in my truck which is the exact same motor with the exception of the crank.
-The 351M/400 uses small block perches (even though mine sits on the original FE/i6 and still works), but you might need new mounts.
-I use a stock-style radiator with the generic rubber flex hoses. I can't use the stock fan shroud though, but again mine sits on the wrong perches that set the motor 1" higher. You may get lucky and can use yours.
-Your new transmission will require you to move the crossmember and you will probably need a different length driveshaft.
-The best thing you can do for that motor is swap out the crank for a 400 crank. the next best thing is a new timing set or cam to eliminate the timing retard that Ford put in to meet emissions standards. Then headers and an intake.
-THE place for 351M/400 info: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/10752 ... ricks.html Pay attention to "Bubba's M-Block Workshop".

Re: Help with engine swap?
The motor will sit in the small block perches perfectly, and you should try getting radiator hoses for a 77-79 M motor, as they used the smaller necks on the radiator too. At least make sure the timing set is not original as stated.
