What would you do?

Even though I have a bumpside, this post is about my daily driver - in case you want to leave now.
I have a 2006 Ford Escape and the A/C compressor is going out. I bought a new one from the auto parts place and took it to my mechanic. He took the old one off before realizing I was given the wrong part. (It's really hard to see and get to the compressor. You can't really see it from above.)
Anyway, he had to put it all back together and did not charge me. (Nice guy.)

I feel bad for wasting most of his afternoon and I feel like I owe him something. What would you do?

Is he going to put the correct compressor on at some point in time? If so, slip him a extra $20 & tell him you appreciate it. Good, honest mechanics are hard to find these days. I always try to get to know them on a personal level.
