Re: 72' F250 CS "T-Rex" Cargo light/tailpipe
Out here in the land of fruits and nuts, that rear window shade would be probable cause.....for being a t..t.....terrorist. Just ask Feinstein and Boxer. They're experts and know best.
Look out on the floor here, I just dripped enough sarcasm to fill a pool.

Legal to open carry here... While not perfect Ohio hasn't totally been run over by dims like Boxer and Feinstein.

Love the rear window shade, and yeah out here in The People's Republic of California you'd get more than a few uneasy looks.
Here's the irony of the cargo light, I put it on exactly as it was on the junker in the wreaking yard. I puzzled over it, but looking at the corrosion pattern on the bezel, to see where the water sat, and also the decay of the gasket confirmed that it was oriented this way. Yet most of them look like yours and make mine look upside down.

It is upside down, maybe a PO of the JY truck had it wrong. Look at it like this, the shape is meant to mimic the cab lines.mcheath wrote:Love the rear window shade, and yeah out here in The People's Republic of California you'd get more than a few uneasy looks.

EDIT: Don't feel bad. Look at the pics of mine on my build thread (first page). Mine isn't even close to centered!Since a PO striped one of the screw heads I have not dealt with it yet.

Re: 72' F250 CS "T-Rex" Cargo light/tailpipe
Yes maybe a PO flipped the light at some point on the junker, or who knows maybe a new guy on the job installed it upside down on his first day.
Throws out a surprising amount of light. My wife was marveling over how the assembly is all real metal and glass, with a real rubber gasket, unlike everything made today. The first pickup I ever had with one was a 92' F-250, I was won over instantly they are so useful at night. I've wondered about a spotlight for the firewall, a former cop car in Pick-a-Part had two of them still installed the other day, but someone had taken the bulbs and handles.
My main worry was that it would be off center, but I was fortunate enough to get it dead on. Used a punch and made a dent in the outside in the direct center of the hole for the cab light.
Don't even get me started about California politics...

Re: 72' F250 CS "T-Rex" Cargo light/tailpipe
Okay, so here's a 1964 Thunderbird with the lights on as backup lights. I've read that Ford reused these to make the cargo light for our pickups and simply flipped them, is that true?
Sure looks like the same light.

Looks like it. All Ford would need is a different gasket.

Re: 72' F250 CS "T-Rex" Cargo light/tailpipe
that cargo light mod is awesome! does it light the bed fairly well?
i'm going to have to install one of those but not sure if it would be better to go with something modern with tons of light or the original which would look a lot nicer installed.

It throws a LOT of light. I'm impressed with how much, I expected some dim thing that was next to useless and yet it's as bright as I ever wanted. It's been a great addition.

Re: 72' F250 CS "T-Rex" Cargo light/tailpipe
Started on the heater core and AC fix. First I pulled the heater box, which was pretty easy really, even with the underdash AC. I just had to loosen one bracket holding on the AC vents beneath the dashboard and out came the box.
The PO parked this truck under some trees for the entire time he owned it, which was nearly 20 years. Here's what I found in the vents: Fun!
Also ordered an expansion valve for the AC. Now to figure out what to charge it with. The local shop is selling R-12 for 45 dollars a pound, a local guy wants 30 dollars for a 14 ounce can, and then of course there are the various replacements; Freeze-12, Enviro-Safe, R-152a, etc.
Hmm.
Oh and the local radiator shop said my heather core was junk, it had been leaking from between fins. So O-Reilly auto wants 30 dollars for a new one.

Into the AC fix now. Replaced the expansion valve today. Massive amounts of leaked goo around the valve, I guess it's years of leaking oil and R-12.
The wad of black goo is the some of the mess that was all around the valve area. Here's the new valve to compare, it's different and I hope it works. Came from LMC truck.

Re: 72' F250 CS "T-Rex" Cargo light/tailpipe
Here's where the valve goes under the dash.
And here's the new one installed. What to do with the long capillary tube? It's way too long, can I coil it up tightly? Once I put the heater back in there will be fit problems with it as it is now, I just have it up and looped a bit. I also wonder if it would break over time if it's not tightly coiled? Can it touch anything, or does it have to stay in open air so as not to mess up the feeler bulb's signal back to the valve?
I've got some refrigerant coming this Friday. The clutch engages, and I tightened all the connections, which all seemed fine. Lubed the squirrel cage fans behind the evaporator, they were noisy but quieted down. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Loving this thread, man. That's a great truck you got there. Good luck in your progress.
