DC Making new 68-69 Grilles!
Hey y'all
Dunno if this has been posted yet but was looking through the new dennis carpenter brochure a while ago, says the 68-69 F100 etc. alluminium grilles are currently in development, due late 2014.
Pretty awesome news I reckon.

I was told that the reproduction grille shells will be selling for $1500.00 So a complete reproduced grille all components will cost you around $2000.00

Hadn't really thought about price, just presumed they'd be the same as the other ones, dunno if they'd sell many if they're priced above $700.

Ouch. I was going to guess they'd be about $1000 though.chicof100 wrote:I was told that the reproduction grille shells will be selling for $1500.00 So a complete reproduced grille all components will cost you around $2000.00

Re: DC Making new 68-69 Grilles!
Only the show truck guys will be interested. If I bought one, installed it & fifteen minutes later a large bird creamed it while I was driving 70 mph, I would be one sick puppy. A truck with a grille that expensive is going to have to pay premium insurance rates to get it covered. The old supply & demand thing can get expensive real quick.

And one has to wonder if there is enough demand to warrant the production cost

I'm sure in the beginning the price will be around $1500.00 for the grille shell. They'll get a few buyers then realize that the price needs to come down. Depends on how many they need to move to recover initial cost. At some point they'll come down to a happy medium price or they'll wind up with an inventory they can't move.

Wow. I could mill one from solid aluminum and sell for that price.

Re: DC Making new 68-69 Grilles!
We have dies at work that cost over $250,000 and they don't make anything close to the size of a grille. I would not be at all surprised if DC spends at least $500,00 on tooling.chicof100 wrote:I'm sure in the beginning the price will be around $1500.00 for the grille shell. I'm more partial to the 67 grille anyway. I wonder how much it would be to chrome one...

Re: DC Making new 68-69 Grilles!
Chroming the grille shell and headlight doors/bezels should run you about $500.00 to $700.00 for triple plate, copper, nickel and chrome. The beauty in chroming is the prep. The grille shell has to be perfect, no waves, no dents or dings, same as headlight bezels. when it's 100% straight then have it chromed. Chrome price varies from shop to shop and state to state. E. P. A. and competition dictates price.guhfluh wrote:I'm more partial to the 67 grille anyway. I wonder how much it would be to chrome one...
When done the 67 grilles are "Absolutely gorgeous" (sorry the feminine side came out) no other way to describe the looks of a 67 chrome grille.
