Junkyard Seat and No Bumpsides

Post by Subzero »

I finally got around to go look at some junkyards today. Most junkyards around where I live crush anything over 15 years ( I figured that out the hard way by driving to each one). There is one yard that specifically carries truck and Mustang parts. They had about 4 dentsides in fair to bad shape ( 2 where Rangers) and about 3 earlier to mid sixties F100s. They didn't have any bumpsides which would have really been nice to look over. :( I did find a good seat from a 90s F150 XLT :rock: with manual trans to put in my Ranger to make it a little safer with headrests. Its very hard to find a seat that's not ripped to shreads or has water damage from windows left open or shattered. I will get it reupolstered to look sort of like the original but the seat is not in bad shape at all- its just an ugly brown color and is cloth. I'm also going to save the original so if I ever feel like putting it back in I can.Anyway, I still need to go back and pick up the seat next week so I thought id see if anyone knows what dentside parts will bolt over to my truck that are relatively small jobs to do?
Thanks

Dentside to Bumpside?

Your question is a bit too open-ended. Do you mean what desirable parts? If so, here's a list off the top of my head;

Front sway bar
Front bumper
Auxiliary battery tray wiring
Wheels & hubcaps
Disc brakes and I-beams (Okay, not so little but it's worth doing IMO)
Mirrors (depends on your tastes!) I think the typical Dentside mirrors are f'ugly.
73-75 steering wheels
Bench and bucket seats

Yes only the good parts. Most of them there where pretty picked over for those parts although I didn't lift up any hoods on them. Someone must have known what to grab before me. They did have the mirrors on them and they had the brakes but that's for a later time possibly.

Just came back from pick a part myself and they had nothing that old. The oldest they had was a '77 f150.

I wanted to get some brake drums and a few other parts but struck out.

Yeah, it sucks they scrap everything not too common. Next time I go I might try and look at one of the dentsides closer for some good parts. Soon enough they'll all be scrapped and gone. One truck there ( a newish f150) was completely destroyed by fire. Nothing was left of it but the bare metal. I'm not really sure what use that truck would be but theyve had it for a few months.. I have pics of the truck I'm using the seat out of. I'll get them posted. Do I need to pull the seat runners/mount out of the 90s F150 or will the actual seat bolt to the 68 runners/mount?
